Mayweather-Pacquiao has the whole world talking

pac65349By Peter Wells: After only just over a week since this fight was in the making, already I have heard so many people talking about this fight. It makes me even more excited when people predict what will happen, and the more you think about it, the quicker you want it to come. This fight isn’t just for us boxing fans; it’s for the whole world to enjoy. I know for a fact that David Haye got everyone in Britain talking, so this will get everyone talking. This may not turn out to be a cracker of a fight, but the publicity just makes it a fight you can’t miss, and the build up will be three times bigger than the build up for De La Hoya-Mayweather.

On paper they are the two best boxers on the planet, and whether you disagree or not, it is a fact. Maybe if Mayweather had have stopped Marquez this would be even more intriguing to die hard boxing fans, but he didn’t, but no one has succeeded in beating him so far in 40 fights and he does have some decent names in their. Don’t underestimate Floyd’s power either, he knocked Ricky down twice, although Manny did floor him twice, but I’m not saying Floyd has better power than Manny, I’m just saying don’t underestimate his strength.

I haven’t come to a conclusion yet, and it may take a bit of research on both fighters before I can predict what will happen in that ring on March 13th. Even if I do come to a conclusion I will never be 100% sure, and will maybe have more than 1 idea of the outcome.

The big questions for Mayweather are, can Floyd run and counter for 12 rounds and take a decision? Can Mayweather dodge all the punches coming from Pacquiao? If Floyd gets caught flush how will it affect him? Will he crack under the constant pressure from Manny?

The questions for Manny are, will the counter punches from Mayweather knock him off his stride? Will Manny lose concentration if he can’t get through to Mayweather? Will all Floyd’s trash talk get to his head, and affect his performance?

All these questions will be answered on March 13th, and if you don’t agree with what I’ve said, they are only questions which I thought of, and hopefully I will get an answer for all of them. There is no need to insult either fighter here, they both deserve our respect, and I have no favourite for this fight, and may the best man win.

  • P. says:

You Mayweather nuthuggers ever stop to think that the reason you see “no flaws” in Mayweather’s style is because he absolutely cherry picks his opponents…I’d like to see “no flaws” if May fought Marga, Cotto, SSMosely…pffft…i dont care if Mosely was duckin…he aint duckin now…Floyd sucks

  • some one who cares says:

Before this fight takes place there should be some changes in this sport like less rounds…in reality 7 to 9 rounds is enough to see what a fighter could contribute to the fight and the espectators. Remember Mike Tyson ( One of the graters in my opinion) it only took the first or second round to see all that he had! So please lets clean this sport up and make it what it should really be sport and not a men/women killer /disabling forse…catch you letter

  • cholo says:

Mayweather is the most boring fighter I have ever seen. Pound for pound best he does not deserve. If he was so great, he would not hesitation to fight the best of the best like Pacman is doing. It is true that styles makes fights. And in this case, Pacman is the true package. He has all the tools. All Mayweather does is slap and run. And, Mayweather is too afraid to get hit. That alone should tell you who the real pound for pound king is. Mayweather is scared while Pacman is not. Pacman by late round knockout!

  • nepster says:

Tommy – how it goes? Tsk tsk…you should not make the same mistake of betting against Pac again! Lol!

I my dream some man came he said he know 100 %
and he told me Packman will K.O. Mayweather

  • motownhitman says:

midevil, I am inclined to agree with you. People will always hate on Floyd no matter what as long as he makes what he does look easy regardless of who he fights.

  • midevil says:

jfc, dont comment any more. you dont know what the f***k you are talking about.

  • midevil says:

pbf will destroy this boy worse that pac did cotto. what makes you think a smaller fighter has a chance against the skill of pbf. has pbf ever been in any serious trouble? you are talking about a little man fighting the most craftiest fighter in the business. run? no need to run against the smaller fighter. and if you think floyd doesnt have the power to knock pac out, sheeeeeeeeeeet, be for real.

Ur right John Smith! “The Most exciting boxer versus the most boring boxer”.

  • JFC says:

Manny is okay at 147, 50-50 split, title on the line, and the fight on march 13. Will Floyd agree on this? I believe he wants the fight at 154.

  • JFC says:

i read that mayweather wants the fight at 154. is this true? why 154? he is a welter right?

  • sporty says:

yeah. i agree with tommy. if turn out is good, i can only smell a trilogy for top rank and goldenboy on these 2 fighters.

  • Anonymous says:

i think the fight would be close for the first half..each fighter trying to figure out each other..but manny will certainly hit floyd no matter how good floyd’s defense is. once hit, floyd will go super defensive and at times would go hit and run, hit and run, hit and run coz he cant lose rounds and he cant win on points by just running around either. floyd will gamble and trade shots at times, and he will get caught by manny’s right hook or left semi uppercut(watch judah-may fight 2ng round-floyd got kd)…floyd can hit pac but manny walks right through it, pac hits floyd and hurt him bad..pac’s punchin power and relentless aggression would be too much for floyd…

  • chrisL says:

what is amazing is not the lack of respect for mayweather of pacman fans, its amazing that mayweather even has fans with his rotten attitude and the fact that he has dodged the fighters that he should’ve fought (like cotto).

  • sporty says:

    great job mr. peter wells.

yeah, it was surprising to see how fast manny agrees on the term (147lb., March 13, 50-50 split) considering he is recovering from a hard battle, shooting his movie, and campaigning for congress stint.

let’s see what will happen. i think manny loves to fight trash talker (common w/ filipinos). it gives him more energy :)

  • Bigbasher says:

Motownhitman : the question is who will PBF get as a sparring partner that will simulate the speed and power of Manny ? Although I agree that Khan is not PBF , he makes a good sparring partner that has a crafty style close to PBF.

  • motownhitman says:

Bbull…is khan better than Floyd? Is he smarter than Floyd? Is he as defensively sound as Floyd? Is he as good of a counter puncher as Floyd?

  • Baldo Baldado says:

Hi Peter Wells very nice article…i love it! It has sense….unlike M.Per & L.San are craft writer. CHICKEN RUN is the best title for Mayweather for the bout in March 13 against Pacman.

  • MR Lee c says:

MANNY WONT WALK THROUGH FLOYD LIKE HE DID AGAINST COTTO, BECAUSE FLOYD DOESNT FIGHT STATICALLY.
FLOYD ISNT GOING TO STAND AND TRADE WITH PACQUIAO FOR THE SAME REASON PACQUIAO WOULDNT TRY AND OUTBOX FLOYD ON THE BACK FOOT. I THINK ALOT OF PACMAN SUPPORTERS WANT FLOYD TO STAND IN FRONT OF MANNY LIKE HATTON/COTTO DID SO HE CAN SPARK HIM OUT, ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. I THINK BOTH FIGHTERS ARE FANTASTIC, BUT IF MANNY IS THE REAL P4P BEST THEN HAVE HIM BEAT MAYWEATHER MOVING AND EVADING THE WAY FLOYD DOES. THEN IF HE BEATS HIM WE CAN SAY MANNY IS THE BEST, BUT DONT ASK FLOYD TO CHANGE HIS STYLE FOR MANNY TO DO BEAT HIM.

  • motownhitman says:

It still amazes me that these pac fans seem to have little to no respect for Floyd which makes me think they aren’t really fans of the sport just fans of Manny. The X factor in this fight is boxing IQ and Floyd has the boxing IQ. Floyd wins based upon skills and smarts.

  • Rob says:

Manny will KO Floyd on 2nd round. Floyd biggest surprise in his life…….

  • manghuhula says:

similar to pacman vs. morales 2…, i cant w8

  • George says:

FLOYD’S HAD SHOULDER AND HAND SURGERIES. HE’S GOING TO BE 33 YEARS OLD, AND CAN’T EVEN KNOCKOUT A LIGHTWEIGHT! HE’LL RUN AND RUN, AND THEN BOOM! LIGHTS OUT! EASIEST FIGHT FOR MANNY!

  • Peter Wells says:

Well spotted BBull, i did mean to put 3 times.

  • 3 stars and a glove says:

this fight is going either way. the style and skill goes to PBF and the power and heart goes to Manny. Don’t underestimate both of them. they have their own specialty to reveal. But Floyd does every wise cheating just to win. that what’s bother me. if he hits and run goes that’s ok. i can’t forget the move he did with Marquez. the excess 2 lbs is already a big “?” to most of boxing fans. Which means that PBF doesn’t have enough self-esteem that he can defeat Marquez.

  • Sbanasan says:

Great read….. BTW…. “WRATH OF KHAN” should be his new moniker!

    AMIR “WRATH OF” KHAN

    or

    AMIR “The Wrath” KHAN

  • irish boxing fan says:

To beat a boxer you have to hit him first. I think PBF will counter his way to a points decision. I respect manny and think is one of the grestest of all time but floyds defence is just too good, I honestly believe PBF will win then go on to show the world he is the best by beating the rest

  • Bigbasher says:

Everybody is supposed to be bigger , better , and faster than Manny…until they step in the ring with him on fight night . Everybody …no exceptions (that includes you PBF!!!!)

  • MP says:

    OK guys, keep underestimating Manny n u r in 4 a big surprise. F I wer u, don’t bet against Manny.

  • 123 kid says:

I still fancy floyd but you never know I think floyd might be slowing down a bit in his old age which is bad if you face someone as fast as pacman

  • bulls says:

nice one not like manuel perez

  • DANIEL says:

GIO SLOW DOWN BUDDY YOUR GOING AHEAD OF YOURSELF. THE FIRST FIGHT WITH CASTILLO AND MAYWHETHER …LET THE FANS BE THE JUDGE AND SAY WHO WON…. U BE THE JUDGE AND BE HONEST. WHO U THINK WON? DONT TELL ME FLOYD. NOW FLOYD CAME IN FIGHT VS MARQUEZ MAYBE LIKE 160, HE DIDNT WANT TO WEIGH HIMSELF IN THAT NIGHT… THAT TO ME IS A GIRL MOVE. REALLY U CANT COMPARE BOXERS (MANNY & FLOYD) BECAUSE OF THE WAY THEY FOUGHT A BOXER. STYLES MAKE FIGHTS. FLOYD DOES HAVE GOOD DEFENSE. BUT MANNY HAS TOO MANY COMBOS, SOMETHING MARQUEZ DIDNT HAVE AGAINST HIM. MANNY STANDS AND FIGHTS FLOYD HITS AND RUNS. THAT IS WHY THE FIGHT WITH MARQUEZ WAS DIFFERENT AGAINST EACH. ANOTHER BOXER IM SKEPTICAL IF HE REALLY BEAT WAS OSCAR DE LA HOYA…. I GOT MY MONEY ON MANNY GIVE CREDIT TO WHEREVER CREDIT IS DUE.

  • gio says:

gotta give it to mayweather on this one. Too much skill and excellent countering for manny. Lets put their characters aside and just look at their fights. Mayweather is very smart and has the best reflexes I have seen in the world of boxing. Not to mention his near perfect defense and blinding hand speed. Pacquiao also has blinding hand speed, KO power, and his chin has been proven solid over the years. But I see flaws in Pac Man, like in both fights with marquez he got hit with ALOT of clean hits and lost rounds cuz of Marquez’ excellent ring generalship and technique. In fact, theres still many that think pac didnt beat marquez. I myself believe they are 1-1 with pac winning the second fight. Now just imagine how mayweather the best “BOXER” in the world will exploit pacman in march. I see manny in for a long night. This is what makes me pick mayweather tho, I see NO FLAW in him. When have you seen a fight were mayweather barely won? just like the pac-marquez fights?? The only one I can think of was the castillo-mayweather fight but he came back to completely dominate him in the second fight. And how can you dominate a boxer like marquez for 12 rounds like that? I know he came in heavier but marquez is still considered one of the top technicians in the world and to dominate him so is nearly impossible cuz marquez would eventually find something to exploit from you. But there was nothing to exploit, mayweather has no flaw. You guys should put your money on a mayweather unanimous decision if you guys know about boxing. I know we all get excited with pac man, I do myself, and believe he can beat anyone in the world..but this is one that I don’t see him winning.

  • billy says:

mayweather all the way go USA

  • DANIEL says:

THIS COMMENT IS FOR PAUL…… MAYWHEATHER AND MANNY ARE TOO DIFFERENT BOXERS WHICH BRING DIFFERENT STYLES OF BOXING TO THE TABLE. THE REASON WHY FLOYD HANDLED MARQUEZ SO WELL IS BECAUSE HE DOESNT FIGHT TOE 2 TOE. HE HITS AND RUNS HITS AND RUNS. NOW MANNY IN THE OTHER HAND BOXES … MARQUEZ IS SUCH A GOOD COUNTER PUNCHER THAT IS REASON WHY HE GOT AT MANNY… EVEN TO BEAT HIM ON THAT SECOND FIGHT, BUT IT WAS GIVEN TO MANNY. NOW LET ME TELL U THIS …AND BERNARD HOPKINS SAID IT THE BEST….*A GOOD BIG FIGHTER WILL ALWAYZ BEAT A GOOD LITTLE FIGHTER.* STYLES MAKE FIGHTS!!!

  • woRmee says:

Very great article, you are a true journalist Peter Wells, unbiased and based on facts and reseach. Can’t wait to read your in-depth prediction of the fight. Manuel Perez and Liam Santiago should just retire to the gossip section of a showbiz magazine, they only know how to write biased opinions.

Just a thought, how would you predict a Mayweather vs Khan fight? thanks

  • Berry F. Ninth says:

YO I’M WATCHING THIS PAUL WILLIAMS FIGHT WONDERING WHY YALL THINK THIS IDIOT CAN BEAT FLOYD?!?!?!?!?! HE IS SUCH A BIG GOOFY LOOKING DUDE. HOW CAN YOU SAY FLOYD LIKE TO FIGHT SMALLER DUDES AFTER ONLY FIGHTING 2 PEOPLE WHO WERE SMALLER THAN HIM YET PAUL WILLIAMS “ALWAYS” FIGHTS PEOPLE WHO ARE SMALLER THAN HIM? THIS LAME IS 6’2 TRYING TO FIGHT WELTERWEIGHTS WHO USUALLY RANGE FROM 5’5 TO LIKE 5’9… DOES ANYONE BESIDES ME WONDER ABOUT THIS??? HE REALLY NEEDS TO STAY IN THE MIDDLEWEIGHT WITH THIS RETARTED STYLE LOL. “GET EM FLOOOOOOOOOOOOOYD”

  • ROY says:

they was always the crash of the boxer vs the slugger ,ali dominated but two guys gave him trouble/loses foreman and Joe Frazier pac similar like smoking joe, nonstop combination and a mean left, but like floyd sr said watch-out for that left, hey,,,,think ya forgot about the right hook that floored ricky and the short right uppercut inside as cotto was backing up pac even off balance, bang ,and down went stone jaw,

  • Paul says:

Mayweather is a very crafty boxer he handled Marquez with no problem, Pacman couldn’t say that, Pacman fought a seriously drained Dela Hoya and a Hatton that was taken to school physically and mentally, and I wont even mention Cotto.

  • MANUELA PEREZA says:

Nice article Peter, this is the way a writer should make not the likes of Manuel Perez & Liam Santiago with full of hates to the Pacman and keeps insulting with a lot of nonsense

  • Amir Khan says:

Amir will be the MAIN sparring partner of the PacMan for his hight with mayweather. Who will it be for the pretty boy?

  • No1boxingfan says:

The only reason why the world is talking about his fight is b’coz of Manny. Pacman is way popular than Mayweather. Another reason why is the world wants to see Mayweather get knock out by Manny. He’s so arrogant and talk too much!

  • pacman d king says:

All I know is Mayweather will run, run and run. I think he is starting to practice on how to run fast so he can avoid Pac-man’s punches, LOL!. No doubt Pacman will win this fight with boringweather.

  • pacman says:

the only problem manny will have with mayweather (and we all expect floyd to do this on fight night) is the run and pot shots that jr. employs. we all saw how manny is vulnerable to quick jabs when he fought cotto. this is a problem team pacquiao needs to address, especially given that mayweather is a lot quicker, a lot longer, and a lot smarter that cotto. other than that i believe manny will win this fight.

  • stephen a says:

excelent article peter, it will be close no doubt, but if it is fought at 147 manny will stop floyd in the later rounds

  • yoshi says:

peter wells is the man! Eff Manuela Perez and Liam Santiago!

  • Jeride says:

I agree…there are a lot of questions on both sides. I really appreciate this article. I can’t wait until March 13. I am a diehard Mayweather fan, but I can’t deny Manny’s impressive learning curve. To be honest, I think Manny makes alot of mistakes. He throws his head is always down…perfect for an uppercut. But as of late, no one has caught him with one. I think some of the credit is due to Freddie Roach…he is teaching him to box, instead of just swinging. I will see March 13…if he can box, I am sure Mayweather will test his “skittles”. And likewise, Manny is going to test Mayweather’s Heart.

    Lets Go!!!

  • testicularfortitude says:

@bull, very intriguing how manny accept the deal so fast for a march 13th date given the fact that he had just gotten through a serious battle/war with cotto…manny dominated but cotto, a superb warrior himself, busted manny ear drum and auricular cartilage which needed surgical drainage…they were using eight oz gloves and had middleweight punching power, manny ‘s right hand is busted, some report of it broken? I mean manny gotta lots of balls to fight pbf this early, just like his setting up concerts after his scheduled fight with cotto months in advance!
