By Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch is going into his October 29th fight with WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward without the tools he needs to succeed. It’s unfortunate but true that Froch has never learned how to fight on the inside. It’s bad enough that Froch is lacking in the way of hand speed.

That’s reason enough for him to get totally dominated by Ward in this fight, but the lack of an inside game will be the killer blow for the tall upright Brit.

No doubt, Froch will have watched a great deal of video of Ward’s previous fights by the time he sets foot in the ring against him on October 29th, but it won’t help Froch. The reason it won’t because Froch simply won’t have an inside game to compete with. It’s too late at this stage of the game for the 34-year-old Froch to learn.

You know the saying about old dogs can’t learn new tricks. Well, Froch is the equivalent of an old dog and he’s not going to be able to learn the tricks needed for him to compete with Ward in close. I know Froch is going to try and keep the fight on the outside like he did against 42-year-old Glen Johnson and the painfully slow Arthur Abraham.

However, neither of those guys have the inside fighting ability like Ward, and neither of them did a good job of ducking under Froch’s slow shots to get inside on him. That’s the trick with Froch. You duck his slow shots, get in close and stay there. He’s not going to like, but that’s tough. He’s got no choice in the matter.

The only thing Ward has to worry about is getting body slammed while he’s pounding Froch to the head and body at close range. Hopefully the referee is on his J-O-B and does what he’s supposed to do by taking points away and/or disqualifying Froch when/if he starts throwing Ward around or holding and hitting. We can’t let Froch get away with penalties left and right like he got away with in his controversial win over Andre Dirrell. I’ve never seen so many uncalled fouls in my life. I felt sorry for Dirrell, because he was slammed on the canvas and roughed up for round after round without one itty-bitty penalty being called against Froch. I want to see some penalizations if Froch gets froggish.
