Image: Ward-Green and Froch-Kessler could get a new date; Paul Williams vs. Cintron or Collazo in May? - NewsBy Jason Kim: The Super Six tournament stage 2 bouts between World Boxing Council super middleweight champion Carl Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler, WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward vs. Allan Green could be moved from April 17th to a new date, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. Apparently, there’s some kind of logistical issue involving the Froch-Kessler fight, which could affect the dates of the fights. However, this would actually work out better for the fighters and boxing fans, because HBO is showing a split site card on April 17th involving IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute facing Edison Miranda and WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik facing Sergio Martinez.

It would be tough for Showtime’s Super Six tournament fights to be competing with the Bute-Miranda and Pavlik-Martinez fight on the same night, and the same goes in reverse for HBO. These are all good fights and it would disappointing to have to pick between them. Hopefully, the Froch-Kessler and Ward-Green get a new date that in April, because the way it was set up before it would have caused fans to have to switch channels continuously or TIVO it.

Paul Williams could be facing Luis Collazo or Kermit Cintron in May

Light middleweight Paul Williams (38-1, 27 KO’s) could be facing either welterweight Luis Collazo (30-4, 15 KO’s) or light middleweight Kermit Cintron (32-2-1, 28 KO’s) in May. There are talks between Williams’ promoter Dan Goosen and Lou Dibella, the promoter for Cintron. He’s also talked to Don King, the promoter for Collazo. Of the two, the fight between Cintron would seem to be the more interesting.

Cintron, 5’11”, would at least be somewhat in the same height range as the 6’1” Williams, and with his huge power, Cintron would have at least a chance of beating the long-armed Williams. I can’t say the same thing for the 5’9”, light-hitting Collazo. He would be giving up way too much size to Williams and wouldn’t have the benefit of big power to rely on like Cintron.

I could see Collazo losing by a lopsided decision against Williams and possibly getting stopped. It would be somewhat interesting to watch, but only to see how a fighter [Collazo] who almost beat WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto January 2009 is basically riddled to pieces by the nonstop punches from Williams.

Cintron is ranked high at number #2 by the WBC and WBO, and ranked #3 by the IBF in the light middleweight division. Cintron, who as of late has showed the ability to box as well as slug, might be able to give Williams problems and earn a decision over him like Carlos Quintana did in a 12 round decision in February 2008.
