Image: Valero-DeMarco: Will Edwin keep his 100% knockout record or can Antonio spark an upsetBy Peter Wells: On Saturday 6th February the KO king Edwin Valero will head to Mexico to defend his World Boxing Council lightweight title. Valero was in the ring in December last month and stopped tough veteran Hector Velazquez in just 6. At 26-0 (26 knockouts) Valero is the most consistent knockout artist fighting. His next opponent is Mexican Antonio DeMarco 23-1-1 (17 knockouts) isn’t a bad puncher either but isn’t near the Venezuelan’s league.

DeMarco hasn’t been past 10 rounds in his career, and neither has Valero whom for his first 18 fights didn’t go past the 1st round. He’s only been past 2 rounds 5 times. What a record!

How do you survive against a guy who has such power and can still go all the way to 10 rounds and still have that great power at the very end. DeMarco’s only defeat was on points in his 9th fight. He has never been down and has some good knockdown power even if he doesn’t always finish the job. His quality of opposition isn’t as near good as he needs, but Valero is a fighter whom if you have the ability it is an easy victory.

I don’t think Antonio is that fighter and with the determination to get big fights driving Valero on he should stop DeMarco in around 8 rounds. Antonio will try very hard but will be knocked down before he is stopped. If Edwin gets his chance there will be no escape for DeMarco.
