The problem: Too many organizations and titles!

By Sotoman: All fight fans understand that “Money Talks” in today’s boxing world.  Undoubtedly, All boxers are in search of a pay day, but they “ALL” enjoy what they do. Having said that, boxers should fight the best and only the best in each of their respective divisions.

There for the problem fans have is not in the fighters wanting to make the money, or moving up or down, or winning a title, but the issue lies in the amount of organizations that exist in today’s boxing world.

World Boxing Association
World Boxing Council
World Boxing Federation
World Boxing Organization
International Boxing Federation
International Boxing Organization

Just to name the big boys. These organizations continuously create more belts! more belts! more belts! Currently there are 6 Major belts in each division: WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, The Ring. The fact that all these fighters are called champions is what is going wrong.  Being a champion and the best fighter in the world is an honor, not a joke.

Some of the individuals holding these very titles, many will argue are not worthy.  There should be one  true champion per division.  This will force fighters to fight everyone because the focus once again would be on becoming champion.

We have heard Floyd Mayweather Jr. say many occasions that “belts don’t matter”, well at this point in the sport, they don’t! Many fans will agree that belts go around like pastries on a platter. If we are able to create an ONE organization, with ONE title that names the true champ then I believe fighters will be more opt to take risk.  Fighters are continuously working to become world champions, but how much does it really mean today to be a World Champion?

FLOYD, GGG, WARD, PACMAN, MARQUEZ, BRADLEY, THURMAN, CANELO, etc…and all those worthy warriors are undeniably boxings soon, if not already, big tickets.  In spite of that, how much more fun would boxing be if many of these fighter fought to be called the best of the best?  You tell me how much!
