By George Priestman: Terri Harper claims she’s ready to showcase her skills on a wider platform as she returns to the ring to defend her world titles on Saturday night.

Terri Harper faces off against unbeaten Norwegian fighter Katharina Thanderz for the Brit’s WBC Super Featherweight world title.

This Saturday marks an historic occasion for women’s boxing. If you hadn’t heard, three women’s world title fights will take place live on Sky Sports and multiple platforms. Those are Facebook and YouTube as women’s boxing takes centre stage.

Taking on the unbeaten Thanderz (13-0) Harper comes off the back of an extremely entertaining bout with Britain’s Natasha Jonas, which was called as a draw. The fight took place in Fight Camp, at the residence of promoter Eddie Hearn.

That was her first defence of her world title, but she claimed in the press conference on Tuesday that she’s learned a lot from that fight.

“I was involved in a tough fight, it ended up being a big learning fight but these are the fights you need to take you to the next level.”

“That fight brought me back down to reality, it made us all come together and look at what we needed to work on.”

As the platform for this fight is bigger than ever before, more eyes will be on the contests taking place at Wembley Arena this weekend, but the 24-year-old isn’t feeling the pressure to get the victory.

“No, I put the pressure on myself to win. But it’s nice to know the platform is bigger and there are more eyes on us and I’m just excited to showcase my skills to a lot more people.”

Harper claimed that this fight has the potential to be an exciting, competitive contest and is aware Thanderz will be a tough opponent on the night.

“From what I’ve seen she likes to get stuck in and she’s a game fighter. But I don’t want to get dragged into that game with her. But I think it’s going to be an exciting fight.”

Headlining the main event is one of women’s boxing biggest stars, if not the biggest Katie Taylor. Harper has previously stated Taylor is an inspiration for her and has been

“I’ll just play it cool when I do see her, but, like I said, it’s crazy to think that again I’m on the undercard of Katie and I’m sure I’ll ask her for a little photo.”

In terms of the weights, Taylor fights in the weight class above Harper, and a potential all British clash is not totally out of the question. However, the Yorkshire based fighter claimed it would be a dream fight.

“A dream of mine would be to fight Katie in the ring, why not. I want to fight to fight the best and it would mean sharing a ring with one of the greatest.”
