This was supposed to have been a safe fight for the 26-year-old Love, but Medina nailed Love with a huge left hook in the 3rd round that sent Love down face first on the canvas. He was unable to get up in time for the fight to continue, and the fight was stopped at 0:39 of the round.

Love’s jab was working well for him in the first two rounds, but Medina kept landing hard shots. Love might have been able to out-box Medina if he’d been able to avoid him in the early rounds. Many of the fights that Medina lost in the past were ones where he gassed out after fighting well in the early rounds. Love should have stayed away from him until he faded later in the fight instead of electing to slug with him.

Love is going to need to go back to the drawing board and figure out where to go from here. He lacks power, and he’s mainly just a jabber. In Love’s previous fight against Marco Antonio Periban last May, Love was hurt on a couple of occasions by Periban. The only reason Love got the win was because Periban gassed out badly. If he had been able to fight hard for any length of time, he likely would have knocked Love out too.

In other action on the card. super middleweight contender Badou Jack (17-1-1, 11 KOs) defeated Jason Escalera (15-3-1, 12 KOs) by a lopsided 10 round unanimous decision. The final judges scores were 100-90, 99-91, and 99-91. Jack landed some nice shots in threw some beautiful combinations. He looks good when he’s facing someone who isn’t a threat to him like Escalera. Jack lost his last fight by stoppage.
