Price vs. McDermott: Oh dear Johnny boy!

Image: Price vs. McDermott: Oh dear Johnny boy!By James Hardiman (Chaos J): In what will probably be the easiest victory of his career, David Price (12-0-10 KO’s) took apart the Podgy ‘Big’ John McDermott inside the first minute of the first round at the Olympia, Liverpool.

It was a huge win for Price in what was supposed to be his first big test in his short but promising career. His power looked excellent and after the first knockdown, McDermott just had no awnsers to give price and was broken up twice more shortly after.

First off, I honestly thought Price looked very nervous in the opening few seconds when Big John started steaming towards him looking like a man trying to claw his way through a burger wrapper and to be fair to McDermott, he landed a decent blow to Price in the split second before landing on the canvas. I thought he could of done alot better then that but he got his game plan completely wrong. He came out far to quickly hoping to shake Price up from the first bell and it looked liked it worked for the first ten seconds but as soon as that big right from Price landed, it knocked every bit of life, energy and belief out of him. He needed to pace himself and get some sort of long run game plan together.

Price looked like he has serious power but through no fault of his own, it was hard to judge just how good he is or can be because McDermott just flopped. I thought it would be a far closer encounter until I saw the ring walk. I know McDermott is tough but while Price looked ripped and lean, it looked like John had just polished off a large kebab before coming out of his dressing room. Price took care of McDermott far easier then British rival and fellow giant Tyson Fury did and will give Fury massive problems but because of McDermott’s stupid gameplan, we dont exactly know how much better Price would of faired if John came out to box and not to slug.

All in all, very impressed with Price’s power, very dissapointed in every aspect of McDermott and very excited about the probable match up between Price & Fury. Fury definately has the better experience as he’s fought better opponents but will have to work major overtime on his defence because he can not afford to allow a huge right from Price to land flush on his chin. As for McDermott, he can now eat as many hotdogs as his rapidly failing heart desires because he is finished!
