Image: Prescott vs. McCloskey: Look for a short quick knockout win for BreidisBy Scott Gilfoid: In some ways it’s good that Ireland’s Paul McCloskey is fighting Breidis Prescott in front of his home crowd on September 10th in Belfast, Ireland. The reason being is because after Prescott destroys McCloskey in three or four vicious rounds, McCloskey won’t have to suffer through a long plane flight home to Ireland and be left thinking about his bitter defeat.

This way he can merely get in a car after the fight and be home within a short period of without having to dwell on the loss. The Prescott-McCloskey fight will be a WBA light welterweight eliminator bout with the winner becoming the mandatory for the winner of Roberto Guerrero vs. Marcos Maidana fight. By the time the McCloskey-Prescott fight takes place in September, they will already know who the winner of the Maidana-Guerrero fight will be because it takes place earlier on August 27th.

McCloskey is a slick fighter whose main quality going for him is his ability to make his opponents miss with their shots. I do agree that McCloskey is very good at that despite having very slow hands. However, that’s all McCloskey can do. He’s got no offensive skills to speak of and zero power. He just runs around and tries not to get hit. This is why when he took on Amir Khan, he lost the fight.

It wasn’t because Khan was belting him with shot after shot, because he could barely lay a glove on him all night. The reason McCloskey lost is because he doesn’t throw punches and just looks to escape punishment. There’s no question he’s going to lose to Prescott, because he’s going to be getting lit up from the second the fight starts. The only question for this fight is how badly will McCloskey lose? I think he’s going to lose really badly by getting caught by one of Prescott’s huge hooks and knocked cold in front of a sold out arena filled with McCloskey fans.
