Image: Pavlik-Lopez, Vazquez-Arce & Alvarado-Narh this Saturday on Pacquiao vs. Mosley undercardBy Chris Williams: This Saturday’s $55 pay-per-view card headed by Manny Pacquiao vs. 39-year-old Shane Mosley is one of the weaker ones within memory. Other than the main event between Pacquiao and Mosley, which looks to be a terrible mismatch, the undercard doesn’t have much going for it in terms of compelling fights.

There’s really nothing there to look at other than the comeback fight for former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik against a completely unknown Alfonso Lopez. This will be lucky if it goes four rounds. I’m not against Pavlik having a soft touch, since he hasn’t fought in over a year. i just have a problem with this fight being placed on a PPV card. I see it as an HBO for free card or a nice ESPN2 fight buried on the undercard.

In other fights on the card, WBO super bantamweight champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. (20-0, 17 KO’s) will take on the shot-looking 31-year-old Jorge Arce (56-6-2, 43 Ko’s). Vazquez will no doubt win this fight. I would have liked this fight had it taken place eight years ago when Arce was at his best but he’s not the same fighter he once was. He’s been schooled by Christian Mijares, Vic Darchinyan and Simphiwe Nongqayi in the past four years and should have also been beaten by Lornzo Parra last year but was given a 10 round draw in that fight.

The light welterweight Mike Alvarado vs. Ray Narh fight is a battle between decent contenders, who will likely never win a major title at light welterweight. I don’t mind seeing these guys fight on ESPN or for free on HBO, but not on PPV. I prefer to see fighters that have a good chance of being champions in the future. Sorry, I can’t see Alvarado or Narh ever winning a title unless it’s a paper title.
