Image: Montiel-Donaire: Fernando says he'll knock Nonito out within 10 roundsBy Dave Lahr: WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel (44-2-2, 34 KO’s) sees himself knocking out challenger Nonito Donaire (25-1, 17 KO’s) within 10 rounds on Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Montiel, 31, has the speed, the power and the experience against the younger, slightly taller and over-confident Donaire. This is a fight where Donaire will be begging to be knocked out by fighting aggressively and treating Montiel like he’s one of his lower level fodder opponents.

Speaking with Dyan Castillejo at ABS-CBN News, Montiel said “I’m sure I can knock him out before 10 rounds.”

Montiel will be like an angry dog off his leash on Saturday night. Donaire will make the mistake of getting too close to the angry dog and will get his head bitten off in the process. This is why it’s best that Donaire fight as cautiously as a person taking a part a live grenade. You can’t make a mistake with a fighter like Montiel, because with his one-punch power, it’s all over once he lands clean. Donaire is the type of fighter that needs to land a lot of shots to get his opponents out of there. He’s a messy type of fighter that requires for him to land over and over again with power shots before he can take out his hapless opponents. But Montiel gets things done cleanly with one or two punches and that it’s. The fight is over.

Donaire, for his part, says this about Saturday’s fight: “I can knock him out in six rounds.” I don’t see that happening. It’s going to be likely the opposite of that with Donaire kissing the canvas once within the first three to four rounds after getting hit with a hard left hand to the head.
