Liam Williams: Andrade is complete weirdo, I’m going to punch lumps out of him’

By Jeff Aronow: The undisguised Liam Williams describes WBO middleweight champion Demetrius ‘Boo Boo’ Andrade as a “weirdo” and is predicting that he’s going to punch “lumps” in him when they square off on DAZN next month on April 17th at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, in Hollywood, Florida

Liam Williams, 28, has been spoiling for a fight against Andrade (29-0, 18 KOs) for ages, and he’s finally getting his chance after all these years. If Williams isn’t able to make the most of it, this could be his swansong for his career.

A loss here could send Liam skittering back to the domestic ranks from whence he came.

Williams (23-2-1, 18 KOs) is a similar fighter as David Lemieux, albeit with less experience against world-level opposition. He talks a good game for a fighter whose best win of his 10-year professional career came against Alantez Fox in 2019.

That’s the only thing Williams has to show after 10 years in the sport, and now he’s been made the mandatory to Andrade by the World Boxing Organization after beating little-known light-hitting 36-year-old Andrew Robinson last October.

“I just think he’s a complete weirdo, a very strange man,” Liam Williams said of Andrade. “I’ve watched him for some time, I used to be a bit of a fan of him back then, now I get the chance to share a ring with him and punch his face in and I can’t wait to do it.”

There’s nothing on Williams’ resume that suggests that he’ll do anything other than losing badly to Andrade on April 17th. Williams stepped up twice against Liam Smith and was sent backing with consecutive defeats in

After those losses, Williams’ promoter wisely brought him back down to the domestic ranks where he’s won his last seven fights. However, Williams hasn’t beaten anyone near good enough for him to be predicting a win over a high-level 160-pound champion like Andrade.

If Andrade has a bad night or something, Williams might have a chance of winning, but it’s going to have to be a really bad performance for the Rhode Island native for that to happen.

This fight has got to be a big letdown for Demetrius because he’s been trying to get clashes against Billy Joe Saunders, Canelo Alvarez, Gennadiy Golovkin, and Jermall Charlo.

There’s nothing wrong with Liam Williams, but he’s not a household name, even in his own country, and he’s already failed when fought Liam Smith.

“I’m going to punch lumps out of him, nonstop,” Williams said of Demetrius. “The first couple of rounds could be tricky, but I believe that I will get on top of him and start beating him up.

“I think he might overlook me, possibly,” said Williams in speaking the obvious.
