By Jason Kim: A fight between undefeated middleweight knockout artist David Lemieux (23-0 22 KO’s) and 32-year-old former light welterweight contender Hector Camacho Jr. (52-3-1, 28 KO’s) has been finalized for October 29th, according to boxing news from Dan Rafael. The fight, which matches the one time top contender Camacho Jr. against the highly hyped Lemieux, will be taking place at the Bell Centre, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

This is an important bout for the 21-yar-old Lemieux because it will give a good idea whether he’s ready to step it up against better opposition. As of now, Lemieux is ranked #3 WBC and #4 WBA. It’s probably too early to throw Lemieux in with any of the middleweight champions because he would likely be in way over his head if he were to be matched against guys like Sergio Martinez, Felix Sturm, Sebastian Sylvester and Dmitriy Pirog.

But that’s going to be up to Lemieux’s handlers. They may feel he’s ready to step it up against one of the champions. He should beat Camacho Jr. without too many problems. Camacho Jr. was once a fighter with amazing hand speed and good power early in his career, but he wasted his talent with soft opposition and hasn’t made the most of his ability.

Camacho Jr. does still have good boxing skills, and he may cause Lemieux some big problems if he can avoid getting hit so often. It’s not healthy to let a fighter that loads up as much Lemieux does hit you for long. The Canadian fighter can knock out anyone if he’s allowed to hit on them for long. He punches very hard to the head and body and it’s hard to take those kinds of shots without going down.

The Lemieux-Camacho Jr. fight will be announced next week, so as not to disrupt the important bout between International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight champion Lucian Bute and Jesse Brinkley, which takes place on Friday.

Lemieux took out Elvin Ayala in the 1st round in his last fight in June. That was supposed to be a test for Lemieux but it turned out to be a huge mismatch. Ayala didn’t look in shape for the fight, and probably would have been better off not taking. Hopefully, Camacho Jr. is in top shape for the bout because he’s going to need to be in excellent condition to avoid getting knocked out.
