Image: Kovalev vs. Pascal 2: Can Jean pull off an upset?By Yannis Mihanos: In the early morning today, I watched yesterday’s weigh -n highlights for tonight’s important fight between IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (28-0-1, 25 KOs) and Jean Pascal (30-3-1, 17 KOs) on HBO Championship Boxing at the Bell Centre in Montreal of Canada.

As of now the favorite to win is clearly the 32-year-old Kovalev.

Kovalev won the first fight against Pascal last year in March 2015 by the way of an 8th round TKO. A very much disorientated Pascal was saved by the referee. It was the right decision in my opinion.

If the standards for winning the fight were mainly physical, then the physical outlook of Pascal last Friday would have won already. I watched him step in to the scales looking terrifically ripped and sculpt like a Spartan warrior.

If the standards for winning the fight were the support, again Pascal would have won already. He has the home advantage. Fighting in front of his fans that should give him the boost.

If the standards for winning the fight were strategy plans again Pascal would have been the victor. He will come in the ring this Saturday with the one and only Freddy Roach on his corner. Roach knows how to turn his fighters to winners, he proved it countless of times.

But although the advantages that I mentioned look convincing, Kovalev is still the favorite.

Unless Pascal follows the plan in its greatest detail, he will lose. Simply as that. Because Kovalev contains something that any boxer would dream or desire to have it is called “Raw strength”.

Every time Kovalev’s opponents feel his power, the outcome is only one: Defeat. The only who has lasted with him the full 12 rounds were the legendary Bernard Hopkins. Still even that alone wasn’t good enough.

So coming to the fight tonight, Pascal must give 110% of himself and hope that finds Kovalev at a very bad day.

A very bad day for Kovalev will be his best chance to win the fight. The fight card starts at 9:45 PM/ET/PT and make sure you tune in to watch.

You never know what happens in boxing…
