What makes the pick to bad is that Sosnowski, a decent European level fighter, has never remotely proven that he’s a world class fighter during his career. Indeed, Sosnowski was beaten by journeyman Zuri Lawrence in 2008.

I mean, he wasn’t just beaten, Sosnowski was totally dominated by Lawrence in an eight round loss. That defeat, and the fact that Sosnowski hasn’t beaten any quality top tier fighters during his 12-year pro career, makes this a rather poor pick for Klitschko for one of his title defenses. You would think that he could have found a better opponent than this if he had closed his eyes and took a stab at one of the fighters. However, Sosnowski does have an impressive record going for him, so perhaps this is what Vitali saw in him, because it’s difficult to see what else he could have noticed.

Sosnowki’s hand speed is poor, his power average and his defense almost nonexistent. He has beaten 45 guys, but his wins have come against obscure opponents that few fans would likely have heard of before. Sosnowski acknowledges that he’s a long shot in this fight against the 38-year-old Klitschko, but feels that Vitali is past his prime and thinks that will give him an edge. I doubt it. Even if Vitali was at 50% of what he used to be, I still think he blows Sosnowski out of the ring on Saturday night.

This is why it’s an especially bad pick by Klitschko to select the guy as an opponent. When you’re challenger is getting beaten by journeyman fighters and have no wins over legitimate top 10 fighters, I think it’s safe to say that they have no real chance and probably don’t have any business fighting for a title. I know in the original Rocky movie Apollo Creed hand-picked the unknown Rocky Balboa to fight and it turned out to be an exciting fight, but this is real life. I don’t think that’s going to be happening here.

If Vitali goes easy on Sosnowski, I think it might go three rounds. But if Vitali comes out fast and is really throwing a lot of leather, I see this fight as a 1st round knockout victory. I just hope they have a good undercard because there’s probably going to be a lot of disappointed fans in watching the main event.
