alexander434By Scott Gilfoid: A fight between IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (25-1, 14 KO’s) and Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) is close to being made for December 7th, according to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer. The fight won’t be taking place in Dubai though like Schaefer had wanted it to. The venue for the fight will be the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, which doesn’t make a lot of sense given that Khan doesn’t have a huge fan base in that city and neither does Alexander.

Schaefer said to RingTV “We’re close. We’re doing pretty good. It’s probably hopefully going to be announced next week.”

Scahaefer doesn’t hide the fact that he’s already looking past the Khan-Alexander fight for next May in wanting to possibly match Khan against Floyd Mayweather Jr. How Schaefer could be assuming that Khan will beat Alexander is unknown to me, because if Schaefer would sit down and watch Khan’s last fight against Julio Diaz as well as his fight with Danny Garcia, he’d realize that the most likely end result for the Khan-Alexander fight is for Khan to get knocked clean out.

Alexander is very fast with his hands, very accurate with his punches, and a decent puncher. As we saw with Khan getting dropped and staggered on three separate occasions in the Julio Diaz fight, it really doesn’t take a whole lot of power to have Khan staggering around the ring like a drunk. I mean, Khan gets hit with a decent shot, and the next thing you know it he’s ready to go to sleep.

I honestly think the damage that Khan took in his fights with Breidis Prescott, Marcos Maidana and Danny Garcia has pretty much softened Khan to the point where he’s susceptible to getting knocked out by almost anyone now. We saw that in his last fight with Diaz. This should have been someone that Khan breezed through for easy victory given that Diaz is 8 years past his prime, but Khan was getting hurt left and right in that fight. That tells me that Khan is a shot fighter and is ready to be put out of his misery against his next high quality opponent and that just happens to be Alexander. What I want to know is whether Schaefer will allow Alexander to get the fight with Mayweather if destroys Khan in December. I bet you Alexander doesn’t get the Mayweather fight even if he stops Khan in the 1st round.
