khan5555By Chris Williams: Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) and Luis Collazo (35-5, 18 KO’s) came in at the welterweight limit at 147lbs in their weigh-in on Friday for their big fight tomorrow night. Khan is still hoping to steal the show with a big win over Collazo to earn him a fight against Mayweather later this year. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said that Khan doesn’t need a KO to put him in the position to get the Mayweather fight.

Schaefer is just looking for a good performance from Khan, and he feels that’ll be enough to get him into the leading position to get the fight.

Khan said “This fight can take me to the bigger and the best fights. I really believe this fight can definitely steal the show on Saturday night.”

For Khan to steal the show he’s going to need to keep it clean, and not fight the way he did against Lamont Peterson and Zab Judah. Khan ended the Judah fight with a low blow victory, and he was given a free pass by the referee. In the Peterson fight, Khan shoved off on Peterson the last 8 rounds of the fight, and eventually cost him the victory. The test for Khan is for him to avoid holding, shoving and running too much. The movement that Khan uses sometimes makes his fights less than entertaining to watch. Even Mayweather pointed that out after watching Khan’s fight against Peterson.

The way for Khan to look good against Collazo is for him to stay in the pocket and prove that he can beat Collazo by jabbing him and getting the better of him with fast power shots. But Khan won’t impress fans if he reverts to the form he used against Peterson, and with his holding. Collazo isn’t a pressure fighter, so it’s possible Khan will keep it clean for this fight and put in an entertaining fight.

“This is another step I need to take to get to the top of the welterweight division,” Collazo said.
