By Ken Hissner: At the Bilbao Arena, Bilbao, Pais Vasco, Spain, Friday over DAZN, Eddie Hearn (Matchroom Boxing) presented in the Main Event EBU European Super Welterweight champion Kerman “Revolver” Lejarraga of Spain defended his title, knocking out Jack Flatley of the UK in the ninth round.
In the co-feature, Spanish Super Middleweight champion Damian “Guinea” Biacho stopped Guillermo Rivero after seven rounds and four knockdowns.
In the Main Event EBU European Super Welterweight champion Kerman “Revolver” Lejarraga, 34-2 (26), #154, of Bilbao, Pais Vasco, Spain, defended his title when he knocked out Jack “Quiet Storm” Flatley, 17-2-1 (4), #154, of Bolton, Lancashire, UK, at 0:30 of the ninth round of a 12.
In the first round, with twenty seconds left, a left jab from Lejarraga on the chin had Flatley’s legs giving out and finally dropped for an 8-count. From the second through the fifth, it was all Lejarraga. At the end of the fifth round, Flatley had an abrasion under his right eye with swelling under it.
In the seventh round’s halfway point, a right from Lejarraga on the chin buckled the knees of Flatley. In the final seconds, a left hook from Lejarraga to the chin stunned Flatley. At the end of the round, both fighters were marked under their right eyes with swelling under it. In the eighth round, Flatley landed his best punch of the fight, a right to the chin of Legjarraga. With a minute left in the round, a right from Lejarraga on the chin dropped Flatley to a knee of an 8-count.
In the ninth round, a vicious right cross from Lejarraga on the chin dropped Flatley on his back with his head bouncing off the canvas as the referee waved it off. Legjarraga kissed the canvas at that point. After several minutes Flatley got to his feet and on a stool. It took over five minutes to regain his feet.
In the co-feature, Spanish Super Middleweight champion Damian “Guinea” Biacho, 12-0 (3), #167 ¼, of Madrid, Spain, stopped Guillermo Rivero, 8-1-1 (1), #168, of Guecho, Pais Vasco, Spain, after seven rounds in a title defense of a 10.
In the third round, a right followed by a left from Biacho on the chin dropped Rivero for an 8-count. Rivero had been the aggressor up to that point. He managed to fight well enough to get through the round. In the fourth round, Biacho switched to southpaw landing jabs before returning to orthodox.
In the sixth round, Biacho dropped Rivero with a right through the gloves on the chin for an 8-count. Later in the round, a right to the chin body again dropped Rivero for an 8-count. In the seventh round final minute, a left uppercut followed by a left hook from Biacho to the chin dropped Rivero. He got up and fought his way back until the bell. At the end of the round, Rivero’s corner decided to halt the fight.
Super Lightweight former 2012 Olympian Jonathan “Maravilla” Alonso, 21-1 (7), #142 ¾, of DR and Gijon, Principado de Asturias, Spain, defeated Mohamed “Marco” El Marcouchi, 28-3 (11), #142 ½, of Belgium, and Miami Beach, FL, over eight rounds.
In the first four rounds, the shorter Alonso took it to El Maroushi, who did his share of holding. In the fifth round, at the halfway mark, a solid overhand right hurt El Marcouchi, who was forced to hold on. The referee has warned him of hitting behind the head from the first round.
In the sixth round though winning, Alonso was warned for a low blow in the final seconds. In the eighth and final round, Alonso continued pitching a shut-out.
All scores were 80-72.
Middleweight Jhon Jader Obregon, 9-0 (4), #161, of Vitoria, Pais Vasco, Spain, defeated southpaw Gerome “Bread Maker” Warburton, 8-1-1 (1), #161 ¼, of Colwyn Bay, Wales, UK, over six rounds. Scores were 59-56, 59-55, and 59-54.
Bantamweight Samuel Carmona, 6-0 (4), #115 ½, of Las Palmas, Islas Canarias, Spain, stopped Luis “Callado” Fernando Villa Padilla, 13-3-2 (2), #114, of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, in the first round at 1:30 of the first round of an 8.
In the first round, switch hitting Carmona went right after Padilla. Almost halfway through the round, a left hook body shot hurt Padilla. Carmona stayed on the attack, landing half a dozen unanswered punches before the referee stepped in and called a halt.
Lightweight Campbell Hatton, 5-0 (1), #137, of Hyde, Cheshire, UK, stopped Attila Csereklye, 10-25 (8), #137, of Kisoroszi, Hungary, at 2:45 in the second round of a 6.
In the first round, Hatton dropped Csereklye with a right on the side of the head for an 8-count. With a little over a minute left in the round Hatton landed a left uppercut to the body, dropping Csereklye again for an 8count.
In the second round, Hatton picked up where he left off, going after Csereklye, mainly landing body shots with his left, forcing Csereklye to hold continuously. Midway in the round, Hatton landed close to a dozen unanswered punches.
In the final minute, a body shot from his left, Hatton dropped Csereklye to his knee where he took the 8-count and got up shaking his head; he was done, forcing the referee to halt the fight. Hatton is the son of former 2-division world champion Ricky “Hit Man” Hatton.
