By Mark Eisner: A slender-looking Jose Ramirez weighed in at 139.6 pounds on Friday for his undisputed light welterweight fight against champion Josh Taylor at the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will be televised on ESPN. – Fight fans outside the US can watch the fight LIVE on FITE (click here!)

Taylor also weighed in at 139.6 lbs and looked like he was near his fighting weight. There were no signs on Taylor’s face that he had drained himself to make the 140-lb limit.

The winner of the Taylor vs. Ramirez fight will be the undisputed lightweight champion and will hold all four titles [IBF, WBA, WBC & WBO].

Ramirez wants to become the first undisputed fighter of Mexican heritage. If he does that, he’ll beat Canelo Alvarez to that achievement.

Canelo has already wished Ramirez good luck with this. Canelo is trying to become the first Mexican fighter to become undisputed at 168, and he’s withing one title of accomplishing that.

The two champions had a fiery face-off afterward with a surprisingly aggressive WBC/WBO champion Ramirez (26-0, 17 KOs) looking angry while jawing back and forth with IBF/WBA 140-lb champion Taylor (17-0, 13 KOs).

It was like a totally different Ramirez than the rather sheepish one that stood for his face-off with Taylor.

Ramirez looked embarrassed and tongue-tied when Taylor talking to him nonstop during the face-off with his locked on him the entire time.

This is a fight that will be difficult for Ramirez to win without him learning from Regis Prograis’s performance against Taylor in 2019. Prograis did well during a portion of the fight, and he may have shown the blueprint in how to defeat the Scottish fighter.

Ramirez: I’m going to throw every punch with bad intentions

“I’m going to do my part. I’m not taking him lightly and I’m going to throw every punch with bad intentions,” said Ramirez to iFL TV about his plans for Saturday’s fight with Taylor.

“I think it’ll be time for me to move up to 147 because there will be no other reason why to stay at 140,” said Ramirez when asked if he’ll move up to 147 if he defeats Taylor on Saturday.

“Once I become undisputed, I’ll have done my job to be the best in the weight division and move up to 147 and try and do the same thing regardless of who’s next.

“People like to say the name, ‘Terence Crawford,’ because he’s signed with Top Rank but I’ll see how I feel moving up to 147. If I feel strong, I’m going to try and go after every champion at 147.

“Because the best in the division are facing each other,” said Ramirez on why boxing fans should tune in on Saturday. “It’s two undefeated world champions, two fighters in their prime, young fighters facing each other to be the best.

“Everybody has a plan of how they see it to boost their confidence, but it’s that one night, once he feels my power,” said Jose Ramirez to ESPN. “That might be enough.”

“How are you going to beat me? You’re relying on your power, your heart, and your determination, that’s all you got,” said Josh Taylor cutting in on Ramirez. “I’ve got power, heart, and determination as well.

“I’ve also got the skills and I’ve also got the boxing brain, and I’ve got the power to beat you. I’m smarter than you. You know you’re a one-dimensional fighter, mate. You’re going to see on Saturday,” said a visibly upset Taylor.
