Jordan Shimmell, 20-1 with 16 KOs, just finished his training camp for his upcoming IBF World Title Eliminator Bout on May 17, 2016 at the Black Bear Casino in Carlton, MN. Jordan will now just run and workout to stay sharp during the last few days leading up to the big fight. The fight is the 12 round main event being televised live on Fox Sports 1 (FS1) and Fox Deportes as part of the Premier Boxing Champions series on Fox Sports’ Toe to Toe Tuesdays boxing show. The winner of the bout will become the mandatory challenger for the IBF Cruiserweight world champion. Jordan is currently ranked #12 in the IBF world rankings and #1 in the USBA’s United States rankings. Jordan faces Murat Gassiev, 22-0 with 16 KOs who is ranked #3 in the IBF world rankings. Since Jordan knows he is fighting the hard hitting Russian fighter Gassiev, he trained extremely hard and sparred a variety of excellent light heavyweight, cruiserweight and heavyweight boxers to be prepared for the fight. Jordan sparred over 200 rounds in the 5 weeks of sparring he had during his training camp.

Jordan Shimmell ran 30+ miles per week including at least one long run each week of 10-13 miles. Jordan also performed other other cardio exercises including elliptical, biking and stair stepper machines. Jordan sparred 12 rounds often and did so with sparring partners who alternated every round or two so they didn’t get tired and could work hard against Jordan. In addition to the cardio work and sparring, Jordan completed a full boxing workout plus plyometric exercises, core exercises, strength training and stretching 6 days a week. Jordan has prepared for the full scheduled 12 rounds so that he will be able to fight at a fast pace for the entire fight.

Jordan turned pro less than 4 years ago and quickly moved up the rankings. Jordan has a very high knockout percentage of 76% but of Jordan’s 20 victories only 2 bouts went the distance. Two opponents were getting hurt by Jordan’s punches and deliberately fouled Jordan repeatedly so they were disqualified instead of being knocked out. In addition to his hard power punches and devastating body punches, Jordan has excellent boxing skills, good footwork and quick punches.
