Groves vs. Anderson: Can George stand and trade with Kenny without getting run over

Image: Groves vs. Anderson: Can George stand and trade with Kenny without getting run overBy Scott Gilfoid: I’m really hoping British super middleweight champion George Groves (14-0, 11 KO’s) doesn’t run around the ring all night long like he did against James DeGale when he faces Kenny Anderson (16-1, 12 KO’s) in a rematch next month on June 30th in a still to be determined venue in the UK.

I don’t want to see anymore of that god awful running from Groves while he tries to keep from getting hit by the powerful Anderson. I just want to see Groves stand and fight, but I doubt that’s going to happen. He’s probably going to use feints all night long, over and over again to try and get Anderson out of position so he can land pot shots. It’s so boring for me to watch Groves fight. I just wish he’d change his fighting style, but I know that’s probably not going to happen. Groves isn’t the biggest puncher in the world, and he’d likely get torn apart if he tried to fight in a traditional fight.

I had Groves losing his fight to DeGale last year in May, and I thought it was one of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen before. Groves did come back and stop the injured Paul Smith by a 2nd round TKO. Smith broke his hand late in the 1st round when he connected with a huge shot to the head of Groves. Smith was quickly stopped in the next round, but he was probably going to be stopped anyway, so it’s not like Groves really accomplished anything.

I’m still trying to figure out why Groves is wasting his time defending his British 168 pound strap rather than just letting it go. Groves was supposed to have been stepping it up to the next level, and I can’t really understand at all why he’s wasting time fighting at the domestic level. I guess the only thing I can take from this is that maybe there’s some doubt that’s crept into his head making him think that he should take things slowly.
