Golden Boy Adds Nonito Donaire To Their Roster

By Edgar Solorzano: According to Golden Boy Promotions, they signed the Two-Division World Champion Nonito Donaire to its roster of fighters. Which basically means that Nonito Donaire will be fighting new fighters in the future and won’t be fighting under the Top Rank banner anymore.

Nonito Donaire, 28, dominated the Mexican warrior Fernando Montiel last February in Las Vegas, NV. Donaire successfully defeated and manage to stop Montiel in the second round.

Nonito Donaire is currently ranked no. 4 in the Ring Magazines pound for pound list. Golden Boy Promotions have been working for quite a while on setting up a Bantamweight tournament; which it will be air on Showtime. Donaire will most likely get the chance to compete against other great warriors in the Bantamweight division such as: Abner Mares, Joseph Agbeko and Anselmo Moreno.

On the other side of the bridge, Bob Arum has lost one of his future stars to his biggest rival, Golden Boy Promotions. The majority of the people say that Donaire made an excellent choice; since he was only going to live behind Pacquiao’s shadow. Which I disagree, if Donaire is truely great, he will soon make his own name and will get the fame before he knows it.

When Nonito Donaire stopped Montiel; everyone was naming fighters, trying to match Donaire with bigger fighters or other greats. Max kellerman got so excited after the fight that he said he would favor Donaire over JuanMa Lopez if they ever battle in the future. Kellerman even said that Donaire could probably end up fighting Gamboa later on, which I strongly disagree. Max Kellerman forgot about all the weight divisions and just jumped up straight to the 126 pound division.
However, it’s a good thing for Donaire that people are already trying to match him up with these bigger talented fighter s. It means he is doing something right.

Golden Boy Promotios president, Oscar De La Hoya stated, “Nonito Donaire is one of the top boxers in the world today and we’re going to make sure he gets the chance to defend his world titles and stays as active as possible.” He also stressed, “The bantamweight division is becoming one of the most competitive and exciting divisions in boxing and we look forward to promoting Nonito in great fights in the coming years.”

Nonito Donaire seems to be satisfied with his choice and said, “I’m honored to be joining so many great fighters and champions on the Golden Boy Promotions team, with,” said Donaire. “I’m going to fight my heart out every time I’m in the ring and will give fans the fights they want to see.”

Nonito Donaire is a smart fighter with great talent. He keeps growing little by little. He’s like a volcano that will soon will erupt and clear the Bantamweight division. We’ll have to way what Bob Arum has to say or I can just picture how mad Arum is at this moment.

Since JuanMa Lopez fights under the Top Rank banner, we may never see a JuanMa Lopez-Donaire fight.

Golden Boy lost all their old fighters that were stars. Fighters like Shane Mosley and Juan Manuel Marquez.

But one think for sure, Golden Boy Promotions have a lot of great prospects. Prospects like: Randy Caballero, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Sharif Bogere and more. They have plenty of talented young fighters that could make it far in the future.
