By Vince D’Writer: As part of a stacked undercard for the Chantelle Cameron-Katie Taylor 2 event, lightweight prospect Gary Cully makes his return to the ring as he will face Reece Mould (18-1, 6 KOs) on November 25th at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland, live on DAZN.

The 6’2″ southpaw Gary Cully is a boxer who was on the verge of making the transition from prospect to contender. Unfortunately for the 27-year-old Cully, the road to success revealed an unexpected detour in Dublin on the night of May 20, 2023.

A product of Naas, Ireland, Gary “The Diva” Cully made his pro boxing debut back in September 2017 when he scored a 1st round TKO victory over Gyula Tallosi. Cully would go on and continue to win as he started his career with thirteen straight victories.

Back in March 2022, Gary Cully stepped inside the ring to face former IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez. In the opening minute of the 5th round, Cully landed a sharp left hand that sent Vazquez down to the canvas. Vazquez made an attempt to get up, but he dropped back down on one knee as he was counted out.

With the knockout victory, Gary Cully remained undefeated as he improved his record to 14-0. Five months later, the Irish lightweight accomplished a goal he set for himself when he signed a promotional deal with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing.

Immediately after being signed, Cully made the comment, “I’ve had my sights set on joining Matchroom long before I turned professional, so to finally be here is massive for me. My last fight was on a Matchroom card back in March, the huge Wood vs Conlan bill. I saw how they do things, and it reminded me that this is where I wanted to be.”

“With Eddie Hearn and Matchroom backing me, I’m in the right place to make these fights happen. I also have big dreams of bringing big-time boxing back home one day. Cully went on to say, “I’ve dreamed of bringing boxing home and having big fights in Dublin one day. The ball is in my court now.”

A year later, the dream became a reality as Cully was the co-feature on the May 2023 Taylor vs Cameron card at the sold-out 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland. In the third round of his homecoming bout, Gary Cully’s dream quickly transitioned into a disastrous nightmare.

With 2:14 left to go in the 3rd round, Jose Felix scored a knockdown when he landed a vicious overhand right. Gary Cully got up and tried to survive, but Felix was landing big shots that forced Cully’s corner to concede the bout by throwing in the towel.

The night of May 20th was a rough homecoming night for the Irish boxing fans. In addition to Cully losing his match, Dennis Hogan lost by way of unanimous decision to James Metcalf, and in the main event, Katie Taylor fell short in her quest to win the undisputed light-welterweight title as Chantelle Cameron retained her belts by way of majority decision.

Now, six months later, undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor will make a second attempt at a homecoming fight as she is set for a rematch against the undisputed light-welterweight champion Chantelle Cameron. Also, on the undercard, Gary Cully will try to bounce back as he’s scheduled to clash with Reece Mould.

Gary Cully (16-1, 10 KOs) viewed the May 20th homecoming bout as a festive occasion, but the party was ruined when Jose Felix scored the knockout in the third and took Cully’s 0. For the second edition of the homecoming bout in Dublin, Cully is focused on getting back on the winning track, and he has the mindset that his upcoming matchup is personal.

“This isn’t about a celebration or a party like last time was supposed to be,” said Cully. “This is personal for me to get back to where I need to be, and I’m looking to put in a big performance on November 25.”
