matthysse53By Michael Turturice: Now this is a fight we can believe in. Way to go Floyd Mayweather Jr. for lining this up on your under card. In a future blog I will talk about the winner of this fight taking on Money May, but for now let’s focus on what will be a terrific match up.

Let’s start with WBA/WBA light welterweight champion Danny Garcia – 26-0 with 16 KO’s – this is a solid record not only number wise but the names on his resume are not to be over looked. It’s hard to pick apart his fight game.

Garcia is smart, composed, tactful boxer with a good punch. Garcia has a respectful fan base and outside the ring is a stand-up guy. The only wild card in his game is his ridiculous father/trainer who has a never ending case of diarrhea of the mouth. But hey, it makes for a good press conference. Don’t forget he is the Undefeated Champ.

Lucas Matthysse: one word…POWER and lots of it. I’m convinced he has one of the biggest punches in boxing next to Triple G [Gennady Golovkin]. 34-2 with 32 KO’s! Are you kidding me? I think this guy would KO is own Mother if given a chance. He is a straight forward fighter (like most punchers) who is willing to take one to let one go. He has a great chin and has shown glimpses of some solid ring generalship.

My prediction – unlike Angel Garcia, I don’t think Danny is going to KO Matthysse, in fact if that’s what his game plan is it will end within this first five with Mattysse gaining the strap. Garcia should and will out box Matthysse for the full 12 and take the decision. I would not be surprised if Garcia is hurt during the fight but I’m confident he will keep his goose egg.
