Image: Gamboa vs. Beltran Jr. possible 12/8 on Pacquiao-Marquez undercardBy Allan Fox: Former two division world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (21-0, 16 KO’s) could be fighting #6 WBO super featherweight contender Miguel Beltran Jr. (27-2, 17 KO’s) in a tough tune-up fight on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez 4 undercard on December 8th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to RingTV.

Gamboa hasn’t fought since September of last year when he beat Daniel Ponce De Leon. Gamboa left Top Rank after bailing on their scheduled fight for him against unbeaten lightweight champion Brandon Rios. Gamboa didn’t appear to like the idea of fighting the much bigger Rios, and chose not to take the fight. Gamboa then later signed with 50 Cent. It’s interesting now that Gamboa could be back on a Top Rank undercard, which is probably where he’d have been had he stayed with them.

Malignaggi still insisting that he easily beat Cano

WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi is still pretty bent out of shape about having to struggle to earn a 12 round split decision against Pablo Cesar Cano last Saturday night on Showtime at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. One of the judges gave Cano the fight by the score 118-109, whereas the other two had Malignaggi barely winning by identical 114-113. This hasn’t made Malignaggi happy, because he feels he should have been given the decision by fairly lopsided scores. Malignaggi doesn’t agree with the judges and the great number of fans who felt that Cano fought Malignaggi closely.

Malignaggi said to RingTV “I don’t think it was close. He landed a few right hands, and had a few good rounds. I dominated every round with the jab.”

The problem Malignaggi had was that he didn’t look like he was really dominating even when he was out-jabbing Cano. The shots looked weak in comparison to the hard right hands and body shots that Cano was touching Malignaggi with from time to time. Each round pretty much came down to judging whether to give Cano the round because of his hard power shots or Malignaggi’s jabs. Had Malignaggi thrown more power punches, he would have been much better off but he limited himself to throwing just jabs and that hurt him.
