Gabriel Rosado – ‘I won the fight’ against Jacobs

By Boxing News - 11/28/2020 - Comments

By Aragon Garcia: Gabriel Rosado (25-13-1, 14 KOs) was on the receiving end of a highly controversial 12 round split loss to Daniel Jacobs (37-3, 30 KOs) on Friday night on DAZN, and he’s not surprisingly hopping mad about it. Rosado absolutely feels like he did enough to get the win.

There were no knockdowns, and neither fighter was hurt, but Rosado appeared to win the fight with his boxing ability and pressure.

Fighting behind closed doors on Friday night at the Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, Rosado took the fight to Jacobs and made him look old.

Two of the judges didn’t value what Rosado was doing, and they scored it for Jacobs 115-113, 115-113. The third judge that seemed to know what he was doing had Rosado winning 115-113.

This writer had Rosado winning by a 117-111 score, and it shouldn’t have been close. The fact that Rosado dominated the fight should have been reflected by the judges scoring, but it wasn’t.

If Jacobs wants to do the right thing, he’ll do the right thing by giving Rosado a badly needed rematch so that he can clear up the controversy.

Rosado: I outboxed Jacobs

“I thought I won the fight,” Rosado said moments after losing a controversial 12 round split decision to Jacobs. “I mean, I surprised him. I out-boxed him, I out-jabbed him, I countered him, I made him miss big shots.

“Even when they announced the decision, he was disappointed. He had the look on his face of defeat. That man didn’t do nothing to me. He put more hands-on Canelo and GGG than he did me.

“I outboxed him and caught him off guard. I thought we boxed a great fight, jabbing up and down. I mean, I made him miss big shots and hit him with big shots. It’s crazy.

“They said from Philadelphia, and I raised hands up, and the next thing you know it, he was surprised. He was as surprised as I was. Because I’m a veteran, I let the emotions get to him. I let him get riled up; I let him get caught up,” said Rosado.

The world saw that Rosado outboxed and outworked Jacobs tonight, and it didn’t look good on the judges that they didn’t get the scores right. A fight like this should have been easy to score.

The DAZN commentators appeared to be in agreement that Rosado had done enough to deserve the victory. How could they not view Roado as the better man, as he’d been the one taking the fight to Jacobs and outworking him?

Gabe says he made it look easy

“I fought a disciplined fight, a veteran fight, a world-class fight,” said Rosado. “I showed people I can box. This guy went to battle with GGG, and he went to battle with Canelo.

“I made it look easy; I thought I made it look easy. I felt good; I was jabbing up and down. I hit him with big right hands, and I slipped the move when it was time to.

“I mean, when it was time to exchange, he didn’t really want to. He was the one doing the clinching. Look, I haven’t been cut since 2014; everybody is digging up when the GGG fight, which stands out.

“But since 2014, I haven’t been cut. Me and Freddie Roach had a great camp; we knew we could box. I’m a veteran. So I felt like I was going to let him get emotional,” said Rosado.

In nine of the twelve rounds, Rosado made it look easy and clearly the better man. You can argue that when a fighter like Rosado faces an A-side guy, he’s not going to win unless he scores a knockout. This is the story of Rosado’s career.

Rosado has controversial losses to these fighters:

  • Maciel Sulecki
  • Martin Murray
  • Derek Ennis
  • Fernando Guerrero
  • Jermell Charlo

Jacobs was given a boxing lesson

“I’m going to let him get caught up, and I’m going to use it against him,” Rosado said. “He came in with emotions; I thought I outboxed him.

“I mean, no doubt. When they said the score for the decision, he walked away like he was defeated. Then the next thing you know, when he realized it was him, he went with it.

“I don’t know,” Rosado said when asked where he goes from here. “I’m a veteran, and it’s a shame. I don’t know, man. I don’t know why they don’t give me a decision like that.

“I felt like I outboxed this man. Me and Freddie [Roach] had a good game plan. My jab was working up and down, the big right hand. I went to the body, ring generalship, and I applied pressure when I had to.

“Of course, I thought I won today,” Rosado said when asked if he thinks he should have won tonight. I mean, no doubt about it, I felt like I won today. I thought I put a boing lesson. Look at me, I’m clean,” said Rosado.

Jacobs was getting hit all night long by Rosado and looking completely scared of mixing it up with him. Daniel was getting the right advice in his corner, but he appeared to be too afraid to carry out the things he needed.
