Gabe Rosado: Canelo isn’t unbeatable, Caleb Plant has him upset

By Sean Jones: Gabe Rosado says he’s looking forward to seeing what Caleb Plant brings to the table in his fight with Canelo Alvarez on November 6th. Rosado sees Canelo as “beatable.”

We’ve seen Canelo get beaten four times by these fighters:

  • Floyd Mayweather Jr.
  • Gennadiy Golovkin x 2
  • Erislandy Lara

I mean, you can’t beat Canelo, but you might not get credit for beating him from the judges. You have to be satisfied knowing that you and the boxing public know that you have beaten Canelo.

The two-time middleweight world title challenger Rosado feels that IBF 168-lb champion Plant (21-0, 12 KOs) by upsetting Canelo during their press conference last September with a few remarks he made.

Rosado says it could be a different fight now that Canelo (56-1-2, 38 KOs) is upset, and he wants to see what Plant can do in this fight. As far as Rosado is concerned, Canelo is beatable.

Alvarez is not this unbeaten guy that many fawning boxing fans and members of the media have made about him since he starts beating up the flawed champions at 168.

Canelo has been an opportunist for the last three years, taking advantage of three weak champions – Callum Smith, Rocky Fielding & Billy Joe Saunders – at 168 to cherry-pick titles.

Alvarez saw an opportunity to win easy world titles at 168 without the risk of him losing or getting the stuffing beaten out of him as we saw in his two grueling fights with Gennadiy Golovkin, and he went for it.

“I give the edge to Canelo, but it’s going to be interesting to see what Plant brings to the table,” said Gabe Rosado to Fighthype. “S*** happens,” Rosado said when asked about his thoughts on the brawl between Plant and Canelo during their kickoff press conference on September 4th in Los Angeles.

“What I see out of that situation [the brawl] is he probably sparked something out of Canelo that he didn’t have going into the fight. Canelo was probably thinking, ‘Ah, I’m just going to unify,’ and you know Plant made it a little personal now.

“Canelo went from training and probably going through the motions to really going in now and wants to make a statement now.

“Fights can be different when you take it personal,” said Rosado about Canelo suddenly getting upset and personalizing it. “I’m curious to see what Plant can bring to the table.

“I don’t think we’ve seen the best of Plant. So I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt. I don’t know what to expect from him,” said Rosado.

As long as Plant doesn’t get overly emotional like Canelo, he might be able to outsmart and outwork the Mexican star.

I don’t think Canelo is unbeatable. He’s a beatable guy, and they’re both beatable. I don’t know why he would say that,”  Rosado said when told that a trainer told the interviewer that Canelo is unbeatable.

“I don’t know what they see. I think he’s beatable. He’s been beaten once. Anybody is beatable,” said Rosado.
