By Steven Wain: This coming Saturday (04-14-2012) at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast, former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion, currently undefeated in 17 professional bouts, Tyson Fury takes on the man who in 2008 defeated the 2000 Sydney Olympic gold medalist Audley Harrison, and also a former Commonwealth heavyweight champion Martin “Rogie” Rogan who has an impressive record of 14 wins from 16 professional fights. The two men will battle it out for the vacant Irish heavyweight title.

In 2009 Fury controversially beat the then English heavyweight champion John McDermott by 98 points to 92, giving Fury his first professional title, the much anticipated rematch happened in 2010 were Tyson made sure there was no controversy this time winning by TKO in the 9th.

In 2011 Fury finally got his chance against Unbeaten British and commonwealth champion Dereck Chisora which Tyson won by UD after 12 rounds of boxing.

Early 2012 Fury vacated the titles deciding to fight Rogan instead of defending them against prospect David Price

In Tyson’s last fight he took on former unbeaten and current NABA Canadian heavyweight champion Neven Pajkic in an explosive 3 rounds of action which saw Fury hit the floor for the first time in his career in round 2 only to get up and drop Pajkic twice in the 3rd round to get a TKO victory.

Martin Rogan’s career got of to an impressive start first in 2008 he became the first ever PrizeFighter champion and that same year stunned the boxing world by beating Audley Harrison in only his 11th fight, that gave him an opportunity against the experienced Matt Skelton who Rogan beat to capture the Commonwealth heavyweight title.

After such a promising start the wheels began to fall off, in 2009 Rogan lost his unbeaten record and Commonwealth title to Sam Sexton by TKO in the 8th and lost the rematch later on that same year by RTD in the 5th.

Rogan’s last fight which took place in 2010 was a comfortable but unimpressive points victory against Werner Kreiskott since then Rogan has been out of the ring due to injury.

Fury had this to say about the fight

“I’m in destruction mode. He’s in trouble. No man, no army could stop me on 14 April, so Martin Rogan has no chance.”

Rogan replying with

“I’ll be doing so much damage in there against Tyson Fury, it’s going to be unreal,”

Keys to Victory

Tyson Fury:

Speed – Fury is one of the fastest heavyweights in the world right now, he can use this to his advantages against a much slower Martin Rogan.
Height/Reach – Standing at an impressive 6’9″ with a 85″ reach Fury should try to keep Rogan on the end of a stiff jab and not allow him to get on the inside.
Power – With a 70% knockout ratio if Fury lands with his right hand it could be all over for Rogan.

Martin Rogan:

Home support – Rogan Is fighting in his home city of Belfast were the crowd is sure to pull him through when times get tough
Aggression – Rogan needs to use smart aggression against Fury and earn his respect from the opening bell and not allow him to take the center of the ring.
Inside fighting – Rogan needs to get passed Tyson’s long reach and work him on the inside not allowing Fury any space.

Weaknesses

Tyson Fury:

Easily taken out of his game plan
Conditioning

Martin Rogan:

Inactivity
Prone to injuries

As expected Fury is the favorite to win this fight and if he wants to mix it with the Klitschkos hes going to have to win and win in style, but lets not forget that although Rogan has two defeats he has beaten Audley Harrison and a former WBA world title challenger in Matt Skelton.
