Froch-Taylor: Could This Be The Last We See of Carl?

froch452464468By Scott Gilfoid: I kind of feel sorry for WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (24-0, 19 KOs). Here he is about to travel all the way from merry ole England to fight one of the better super middleweights in the World in Jermain Taylor (28-2-1, 17 KOs) in the United States, and his home country won’t even be showing his fight.

It’s sad, but maybe it’s for the best because I think Froch is going to get beaten every which way but Tuesday against Taylor. That’s what happens when you take a fighter like Froch who has faced pretty much nothing but Euro fighters in England and throw him in against a top world class athlete like Taylor.

This isn’t anything all that revealing. I think the same thing is going to happen with David Haye when he faces Wladimir Klitschko. Sheltering fighters in England is really bad for their careers and stunts their development in my view. The same would hold true if the fighter was from Germany or wherever.

While Taylor has been going about his business fighting the best middleweights in the world for the past eight years, Froch has stayed in England and fought a whole bunch of fighters that I don’t consider even worth mentioning.

We’re talking a lot of cream puffs, and it’s all well and good that Froch has finally snapped out of it, but that still doesn’t change his lack of experience against top level opponents. Beating Jean Pascal doesn’t count. If Froch was really ready for a fight like this, I’d like to see names like Joe Calzaghe, who I would expect him to beat because I don’t see him as a good fighter, Sakio Bika, Andre Dirrell, Andre Ward, Denis Inkin and Librado Andrade.

Unfortunately, Froch hasn’t fought any of those guys and only has Pascal’s name as the one decent opponent on his record. No wonder Froch wants to fight in the United States. He’s going to lose badly against Taylor and it won’t be competitive.

This will probably be the first and only time that Froch is seen in the U.S., because when he loses badly to Taylor there won’t be any more interest in seeing him against another top fighter. I just hope that Froch can then make the most of his career after this fight. I would suggest taking on a lot of top super middleweights and try to get some experience against some good fighters.

Froch might be able to learn some things and develop into a halfway decent fighter. As far as Saturday night, I think Taylor is going to win by a blowout and probably knock Froch out in the process. I think there’s a lesson here somewhere. Don’t come to fight unless you’ve got the prior experience. It’s like someone trying to get into Harvard straight from Elementary school.
