Froch-Kessler II: Carl has only one way of winning this fight

froch45By Scott Gilfoid: There’s been talk of IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch opting to choose a blend of boxing and slugging to try and beat WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler in their unification bout next month on May 25th at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

The last time Froch fought Kessler three years ago, Froch attempted to box and slug with Kessler and it failed to work, as Kessler proved to be the much better boxer of the two and was able to out-box Froch from the outside to earn a 12 round unanimous decision victory.

In their rematch next month, Froch has been vowing to come out fast and hard by looking to really put it on Kessler in hopes of duplicating the efforts that he had in stopping former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute and light heavyweight Yusaf Mack.

Froch figures that he can blitz Kessler the same way he did those fighters by overwhelming him with a storm of punches to get an early stoppage. However, the word is that Froch has no intention of doing that. His real plan in to box from the outside, use his jab and pick spots where he can land his combinations.

In other words, Froch will fight Kessler in the identical manner that he did the first time they fought in 2010. I hate to be the one that ruins Froch’s plans but that’s probably not going to work.

Kessler is the much better boxer of the two, so if Froch does attempt to keep the action on the outside he’s going to end up getting speared again and again by Kessler’s much better jab and faster combinations.

The sad reality is that Froch’s only chance at winning this fight is if he comes after Kessler in a brutal all out fashion in the 1st round and use everything he’s got to try and get a stoppage within three or four rounds.

Of course, Froch might get leveled himself or he might end up running out of gas but that’s a chance he’s going to have to take because he’s not going to win if he stays on the outside and attempta to box him.
