By Scott Gilfoid: Andre Dirrell (19-1, 13 KO’s) and Andre Ward (22-0, 13 KO’s) will be facing each other on November 27th in what could be a fight of the year candidate in their stage 3 Super Six tournament bout. This is a fight that has everything going for it. Both Dirrell and Ward are best of friend, and future super stars in the making. Both fighters fought on the same Olympic team in the 2004 Olympics with Ward bringing home a Gold Medal and Dirrell winning the Bronze.

It’s incredible that two fighters with as much talent as Ward and Dirrell are facing each other at this early point in their careers. This is something that’s simply not done nowadays. You don’t get talents like this fighting each other. Instead, the upcoming fighters often fighting stew bums for 30 to 40 fights, build up inflated records before they finally face a halfway decent fighter.

But boxing fans will have the pleasure of seeing Dirrell and Ward go at it on November 27th in a fight that will have to different fighting styles going against each other. Dirrell, the young Roy Jones Jr-like fighter, who probably should be still undefeated at this point given that his 12 round decision to Carl Froch was deeply controversial. And Ward, a Bernard Hopkins clone, with an amazing inside game.

This fight is going to be like going back in a time capsule to 1993 when Jones and Hopkins got it on in front of thousands of boxing fans. Jones won that fight courtesy of his blazing hand speed. Will Dirrell do the same with Ward? Forget about the other Super Six tourney fight between Froch and Arthur Abraham. The Dirrell vs. Ward fight is the one to pay attention to because it will produce the eventual Super Six tournament winner.
