This is a comeback fight for both Dirrell and Taylor, who have been out of action due to head injuries sustained in the Super Six tournament. Dirrell still has a lot of life in him and can accomplish big things in 2012 if he can regain the form he had before he was injured in his last fight against Arthur Abraham after slipping on the canvas.

Taylor was also injured by Abraham in bad knockout loss to him in October 2009 when Taylor was knocked out in the 12th round. Taylor has now been out of action for two years, and his injuries should be healed up by now for him to continue his career. Taylor has lost four out of his last five fights.

However, he attributes the losses to his struggling to make weight at 160. Taylor was gaining too much weight in between fights and was forced to use his training camps as fat farms to melt off weight rather than using the training camp to work on improving his fighting form.

He’s vowed to keep in shape in between fights so that he doesn’t have to use training camps to take-off weight any longer. Taylor is also moving back down to 160 after failing in his experiment at 168. Taylor didn’t have same kind of pop in his punches at this weight compared to at 160. It’s a smart move for him to get back down to where he previously held the WBC and WBO middleweight titles.

Dirrell should easily beat Cunningham without too many problems. Dirrell has dazzling skills and he’ll make it look easy. The same goes for Taylor against Nicklow. These are mismatches for both fighters.
