Chisora beats Scott in controversial stoppage

chisora102By Scott Gilfoid: In a highly questionable stoppage, Dereck Chisora (17-4, 11 KO’s) stopped American Malik Scott (35-1-1, 12 KO’s) by a 6th round TKO on Saturday night at the Wembley Arena, in London, UK.

Scott, 32, was knocked down with a rabbit punch in the 6th round. Scott stayed on his knees until the referee counted to 9, at the point Scott got up and the referee halted the fight without even getting to the 10 count.

Even the local Brits didn’t like the stoppage, as they saw the referee holding up 9 fingers just as Scott rose to his feet. At that point the referee halted the fight. It was just very strange in a classic blow it move.

I must admit it was a beautiful rabbit punch, although it should have counted because the shot landed to the back of Scott’s head.

After the fight, Chisora said “I want to go back to Germany and fight the Klitschkos again.”

Fat chance that happens. Chisora is kidding himself if he thinks he’s going to get another title shot against one of the Klitschkos off of this controversial win. Not only that. Due to the way that Chisora conducted himself in losing to WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, you can bet that Wladimir Klitschko won’t bother facing Chisora until he becomes his mandatory challenger and that’s not going to happen anytime soon, if ever.

Even if Chisora keeps winning, we’re talking years before he’ll could become the mandatory challenger for Wladimir. And if Chisora has to fight someone like Deontay Wilder, he can forget all about the Klitschkos because Wilder would knock Chisora out. The Chisora that fought tonight wouldn’t make it out of the 2nd round against the 6’7″ Wilder.
