Bute-Froch 2 rematch possible for second half of 2013

bute343By Scott Gilfoid: A rematch between IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) and Lucian Bute (31-1,24 KO’s) is possible for the later part of 2013, according to Steve Kim. The fight will have to wait until Froch gets through with his much desired rematch against WBC 168 pound champion Mikkel Kessler first.

Kim said on his twitter “As for a rematch with Carl Froch and Bute, it is a possibility for the second half of 2013. Also, Bute is getting married in June.”

That’s nice to hear about Bute getting married. The man is a class act and it’s good to hear about him getting hitched.

The Bute vs. Froch II fight might have the air taken out of it if Froch gets spanked by Kessler. Depending on how badly Froch loses that fight, if he does lose, it might not be all that interesting for Bute to bother with a rematch against Froch. I mean, I don’t think a Bute-Froch fight would sell more than 5 tickets if Froch gets badly beaten or stopped by Kessler, because boxing fans want to see competitive fights, and if Froch is coming into the rematch with Bute still licking his wounds so to speak from a crushing defeat at the hands of Kessler, I think the Canadian boxing fans will elect to stay home rather than come all the way to the Bell Centre to watch Bute face a beaten fighter.

Froch was supposed to be fighting Bute next, but Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn wanted him to fight Kessler first for some reason. I’m not sure what the mad rush was about, because it’s not as if Kessler was going to fight someone good and risk losing his newly won World Boxing Association title.

At best, we’d see a contender around the #10 spot, but more likely a #15 contender, but I guess Hearn must have given Kessler a big offer to lure him into fighting Froch in his first fight with the WBA belt. Kessler is probably confident right now after stopping Brian Magee and Allan Green in his last two fights, and he must figure he’ll destroy Froch in the same manner.

I think he just might do that because Froch was hurt last time Kessler fought him, and that was a fight where Froch fought in a mostly conservative manner until the very of the fight. I can only imagine what would have happened to Froch if he went all out and decided to slug with Kessler.
