brook21By Scott Gilfoid: Well, it looks like #1 IBF Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KO’s) has finally got his fight against IBF welterweight champ Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KO’s). Dan Rafael of ESPN is saying that the Brook-Porter fight will be taking place on August 16th at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

The card included a rematch between WBC super middleweight champion Sakio Bika and #5 WBC Anthony Dirrell. The card will be televised by Showtime.

I have a feeling that the Bika-Dirrell fight will steal the show from the Brook vs. Porter fight, because it’s a lot more interesting fight and it was competitive between the two fighters the last time they faced each other.

Now that there’s a venue for the fight, Brook can focus on trying to get ready for this fight. I’d recommend that he be extra careful during training camp so that he does suffer some kind of ailment that could potentially result in an injury. Brook’s body fell apart the last time he was on the verge of fighting for a world title against Devon Alexander, and it eventually cost him the title shot after Brook suffered back to back injuries.

Porter doesn’t strike me as the type that will sit around indefinitely getting old while waiting for Brook to recover from injuries sustained in training camp. I guess he’ll put up with one injury delay from Brook, but beyond that, I see Porter walking away from the fight because he can’t wait a lifetime for Brook to be healthy enough for him to make it into the ring against him.

Rafael said “According to the IBF, the @ShowtimeShawnP vs. @SpecialKBrook fight will be 8/16 at StubHub Center in Carson, Cali.”

Brook needs the win over Porter to get a big money fight against Amir Khan the Wembley Stadium in 2015. Khan already said he’d agree to fight Brook if he beats Porter. Khan obviously thinks Brook is going to fail big time in this fight. Heck, I just wonder if Brook will be able to make it to the fight without falling apart during training camp.

Porter is going to take the fight to the inside against Brook, and keep it there for the entire fight, so unless Brook can figure out how to fight in close, he’s going to have a lot of problems.

It’s going to be interesting to see how Brook does without his huge fan base cheering him on the way he’s accustomed to in fighting at home in the UK.
