Broner, 26, was hitting the over-matched Allakhverdiev at will with punches in the 12th round when referee Harvey Dock stepped in and halted the fight at 2:23 of the round. Allakhverdiev looked like he could have continued fighting, but Dock decided he’d had enough because he was taking too many punches without firing anything back.

“I’m going to fight whoever I want to fight whenever I want to fight,” Broner said afterwards. “They say my big brother Floyd Mayweather has a fighter that he thinks can beat me. I think his name is Ashley.”

It looks like Broner is interested in fighting Ashley Theophane (39-6-1, 11 KOs). It’s unclear whether the World Boxing Association would sanction a fight between Broner and Theophane though, because the British fighter isn’t ranked in the top 15 by any of the sanctioning bodies right now. For that fight to happen, one of the boxing organizations would need to rank Theophane.

I don’t know why Broner would get excited about facing this guy because he’s not a great fighter and he’s already been beaten by the likes of Danny Garcia, Pablo Cesar Cano and Darren Hamilton. I doubt that Broner got any of the boxing fans excited when he started talking tough about fighting the likes of Theophane. That made no sense because you can make an argument that he’s a step down from some of the guys that Broner has beaten recently like Carlos Molina and Emmanuel Taylor. If Broner is going to fight Theophane out of a favor for Mayweather, then Showtime needs to step in and say that they’re not interested in televising a mismatch like that. It was bad enough that Showtime televised tonight’s mismatch between Broner and Allakhverdiev because there are a lot better fighters in the division that this fighter.

“Honestly, a young guy like me, they just threw me a lot of cash at a young age. It was hard to adjust to the fame, to the lights. After my last fight I said I wasn’t putting my all into it,” said Broner. “It’s definitely all up to me. After that bell, no one can help me. I’m still AB, but this next half of my career I’m going to be about boxing and about business. Nothing has changed. I’m comfortable at whatever weight my opponent is comfortable at. But I’m getting wiser, I’m getting older.”

If Broner wants to call a fighter out, he needs to look to fight Errol Spence (18-0, 15 KOs) because he’s a fighter that reportedly knocked him out during a sparring session several years ago, and he’s a guy that Mayweather is very high on. Spence is a much better fighter than Theophane. If Broner is going to start calling out non-ranked fighters like Theophane, then it kind of tells you what kind of champion he’s going to be now that he holds the WBA 140lb title.

It’s likely that Broner will steer clear of newly crowned WBC light welterweight champion Viktor Postol, because he would have too much of a height and reach advantage for the 5’7″ Broner, and it would be a lot like the Postol vs. Lucas Matthysse fight tonight, which was a mismatch.

Unbeaten IBF super featherweight champion Jose Pedraza (21-0, 12 KOs) stayed undefeated with a 12 round split decision win over 33-year-old Edner Cherry (34-7-2, 19 KOs). The final judges’ scores were 116-112, 117-111 and 117-111.

Cherry got the better of Pedraza in the middle of the fight with his big power shots to the head. However, Cherry had problems in the last four rounds of the fight with the body punching from Pedraza.

The champion Pedraza was able to stand on the outside and spear Cherry with jabs to the body that seemed to take the energy out of him and prevent him from fighting as aggressively as he’d fought earlier in the fight.

“I won the fight. It was a very tight fight and very hard fight, but I definitely won the fight,” said Pedraza. “I was very calm when they were reading the scores because I knew I won. I’m very happy. We did a great job and started strong, but Edner had his moments. With my team, we used our intelligence to get the victory. I was able to change my style, switch to southpaw and Cherry couldn’t handle the left hand.”

Unbeaten welterweight prospect Jamontay Clark 7-0 (4 KOs) stopped an over-matched Joe Wilson (3-3) in the 2nd round. Clark dropped Wilson twice in the fight, knocking him down once in the 1st and a final time in the 2nd round. The fight was halted at 0:28 of the 2nd round.

Undefeated lightweight Robert Easter Jr. (16-0, 13 KOs) had his way in stopping journeyman Juan Solis (25-10, 9 KOs) in the 3rd round. Easter Jr. knocked Solid down with a left to the body. The fight was then stopped by Solis’ corner. The official time of the stoppage was at 0:45 of the 3rd round.

Early action on the Adrien Broner vs. Khabib Allakhverdiev fight card, unbeaten lightweight Jamel Herring (14-0, 8 KOs) defeated journeyman Yakubu Amidu 19-8-2 (17 KOs) by a one-sided 10 round unanimous decision. The final judges’ scores were 99-91, 100-90 and 100-90.

Lightweight Raynell Williams (10-0, 5 KOs) defeated Eduardo Reyes (0-2) by an eight round unanimous decision. The scores were 79-73, 80-72 and 80-72. Williams was able to back Reyes up and work him over with combinations through most of the fight.

Reyes didn’t have the power to back Williams off of him, and he was kind of helpless in the fight.

In other action on the card, 32-year-old heavyweight Danny Calhoun (6-1, 3 KOs) defeated 26-year-old journeyman Jamal Woods (7-22-3, 7 KOs) by a six round unanimous decision win. The judges’ scores were 58-56, 59-55 and 59-56.

Undefeated featherweight Luis Rosario (7-0-1, 7 KOs) scored a 4th round knockout win over Aaron Hollis (3-1, 2 KOs). Hollis was dropped in the 1st and 4th rounds. The fight was halted at 1:00 of the 4th round.
