Broner: Guerrero is an easy fight for Mayweather

guerrero45By Chris Williams: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner doesn’t see anything in WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero’s game that will worry WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. when they get in the ring and face each other on May 4th on Showtime/WBC pay-per-view at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Broner said to hustleboss.com “That’s [Guerrero] easy money [for Mayweather]. His work ethic, that’s what inspires me. He’s on top for the last 17 years, and he’s still hungry. There ain’t too many people who can do that.”

This will be easy money for Floyd. Guerrero is just too slow and made to order to order for Mayweather. Guerrero likes to come in straight up like he did in his last two fights against Selcuk Aydin and Andre Berto, and then all he does is throw a lot of punches. Guerrero got away with it with Aydin and Berto, because those two guys are pretty limited.

Berto used to be a decent fighter when he was in his early 20s, but his stamina has taken a big hit and he’s not able to stand in the middle of the ring and throw lots of punches like he used to do. He’s fighting really old now, and that’s perhaps the only reason Guerrero was able to beat him.

Aydin gave Guerrero all kinds of problems, and he only lost the fight by four rounds. That fight showed you clearly Guerrero’s limitations as a welterweight because he was hit a lot in that fight, and his power wasn’t nearly as good as Aydin’s. I think if Aydin had the ability to throw combinations instead of big pot shots, he would have beaten Guerrero in that fight.

Broner and Guerrero obviously have bad blood between them. They exchanged an angry series of twitter messages last year that culminated with Guerrero confronting Broner face to face in public when he finally caught up with him. Guerrero attempted to get a fight with Broner, but Broner wasn’t ready to move up from lightweight to welterweight to take that fight.

At 23, we’ll likely see Broner fighting at welterweight in two or three years, and if Guerrero is still around when that time comes we could see a fight between them. Guerrero is 29 now, and that would make him only 32 if Broner moves up to welterweight in three years. I think it would be a good fight when that happens.
