By Dan Ambrose: Brian Vera (23-6, 14 KO’s) has no other way of looking at Julio Cesar Chavez Jr’s disregard of his weight for their fight tomorrow night other than to see it as a situation where he’s overlooking him.

Chavez Jr. can’t make the 168 lb. limit for this fight, so they’ve moved the limit up to 173 in hopes that Chavez Jr. can make that weight.

With no rehydration limit written into the contract, Vera could be potentially fighting a Chavez Jr. outweighing him by as much as 25 pounds on Saturday night.

We’re going to find out today at the weigh-in whether Chavez Jr. can make that weight. Vera said that if Chavez Jr. comes in over 180 lbs. for the weigh-in, he might pull out of the fight.

As of yesterday, Chavez Jr. said he was at 174 pounds, but that’s what Chavez Jr. says, and who knows if he was he was telling the truth or not. Chavez Jr. looked drained to me, and it’s scary to imagine that a drained Chavez Jr. is walking around at 174. If he’s drained at 174, then we could be looking at a 200+ lb. Chavez Jr. after he rehydrates after the weigh-in.

Chavez Jr. doesn’t look like he’s really out of shape. He just looks like he’s still growing and he appears to be a natural cruiserweight now. He’s not going to look fat on Saturday night after he rehydrates into the 190s or possibly the 200s; Chavez Jr’s just going look like a cruiserweight fighting a middleweight.

Vera said to ESPN “He is probably taking me lightly, but it doesn’t matter. I will be 110 percent on fight night. A win will turn my whole career around and it will change my life.”

About the only thing that a victory over Chavez Jr. will do for Vera’s career is give him a good shot at landing a big money rematch against Chavez Jr.

That’s about all Vera can hope for, because there’s only one other big name in the middleweight division besides Chavez Jr. and that’s Sergio Martinez. He’s not going to use up one of last remaining fights on facing Vera.

The only options for Vera if he beats Chavez Jr. is a rematch with him or possibly a fight against one of the top super middleweights. A fight against WBA champion Gennady Golovkin wouldn’t be a big money fight for Vera, because Golovkin isn’t as popular as Chavez Jr. with casual boxing fans.
