By Scott Gilfoid: This Saturday night the boxing world will have the pleasure of seeing WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) defend his WBC title against the capable #8 WBC replacement opponent Gerald Washington (18-0-1, 12 KOs) on PBC on Fox TV at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

This is going to be a battle of the big men with two 6’7” heavyweights in Wilder and Washington throwing bombs at each other for as long as it lasts. Wilder’s choice of the giant-sized Washington is a good warm-up for him for what he’ll be facing when he gets inside the ring with the 6’6”, 250 lb. Anthony Joshua.

By Eric Baldwin: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) has what he feels is a very athletic opponent in 6’7” Gerald Washington (18-0-1, 12 KOs) in their fight on February 25 on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox from the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. Wilder is coming off of a right hand and bicepts injury from his last fight against Chris Arreola and he’ll be testing out his right hand power against the 34-year-old Washington in this fight.

If Wilder’s power is not the same as it once was, then Washington could have a chance to pull off an upset. Wilder hasn’t developed his left hand to any great extent since turning pro in 2009. Wilder says he’s worked on his left hand since coming off of surgery to repair his right hand and bicep, but it’s difficult to imagine his left hand power being significant.

By Jeff Aranow: #8 WBC Gerald Washington (18-0-1, 12 KOs) expects to knockout WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) in their fight in two weeks from now on February 25 on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox from the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. Washington, 250lbs, says he’s 20 pounds heavier than the 225lb Wilder, and he’s going to use that weight advantage to KO him.

Washington, 34, points out that he’s seen Wilder hurt in his fights with little shots, and he says his legs are little and he’s seen them wobble when he’s hit. Washington expects to clip Wilder with one of his shots, and hurt him. Once he has Wilder hurt, he plans on knocking him out.

Wilder is predicting a win for Parker over Hughie.

Wilder says he’s willing to travel to New Zealand to fight Parker in his home country, because he’s not worried about the judges. Wilder believes that he’s going to be able to knockout Parker to make the judges meaningless in that fight.

By Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Lou Dibella has found a very good fighter in #10 WBC Gerald Washington (18-0-1, 12 KOs_ to step in and replace Andrzej Wawrzyk as the opponent for WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) for their fight on February 25 on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox and Fox Deportes at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

Wawrzyk failed a drug test after testing positive for the banned anabolic steroid stanazolol. Dibella believes that the 6’7” Washington will be more of a test than the 6’6” Wawrzyk would have been, and he’s probably right.

Considering how little time there was for the “Bronze Bomber” and his management team to find a suitable replacement for Andrzej Wawrzyk, who was pulled from the card after testing positive for a banned chemical, it’s surprising that they were able to get someone as good as the 34-year-old Washington to step in to take the fight.

The opponent change comes after Wilder’s original foe, Andrzej Wawrzyk, tested positive for a banned substance.

By Jeff Aranow: Unbeaten #10 WBC Gerald Washington (18-0-1, 12 KOs) is a possible opponent for WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) for his next title defense on February 25 at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. RingTV.com is reporting that the 34-year-old Washington is one of three names that are being looked over by Wilder’s promoters as a replacement to fill in for Andrzej Wawrzyk, who failed a recent drug test for the fight and was subsequently pulled from the card.

Wawrzyk tested positive for the steroid stanozolol. There was no way that he could be left to face Wilder after that positive test.
