By Scott Gilfoid: Chris Eubank Jr. has reportedly vacated his British middleweight title and pulled out of his scheduled October 22nd defense against challenge Tommy Langford due to an elbow injury he sustained during a sparring session. I don’t know if you can call this a disappointment that the 26-year-old Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs) has pulled out of the Langford fight.

“Gutted” was Eubank Jr’s response on Twitter to his injury and his subsequent vacating of his British title. Eubank Jr’s father Chris Eubank responded to the news, saying “Chris Eubank Jr’s British middleweight Championship was officially relinquished yesterday due to injury.”

WBA wants Eubank Jr. to take part in tourney

By Scott Gilfoid: In an offer that is likely to be rejected almost immediately, the World Boxing Association president Gilberto Mendoza wants #2 WBA Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs) to take part in a tournament to decide an eventual opponent to fight for the WBA middleweight title, which is currently held by Gennady Golovkin.

The WBA is going to be reducing the champions in the division by ordering WBA “regular” middleweight belt holder to face WBA Super World champion Golovkin after the Kazakhstan fighters’ next match against Kell Brook on September 10. So instead of Eubank fighting Golovkin immediately, he would have to wait for him to face Jacobs.

By Scott Gilfoid: Just when you thought Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs) couldn’t sabotage his career any more than he already had, he goes and signs for a fight against domestic level fighter Tommy Langford (17-0, 6 KOs). Eubank Jr. will be fighting the 27-year-old Langford on October 22 at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, Wales. I am so, so disappointed in Eubank Jr. with his choice of opponent.

Langford is technically ranked #2 by the World Boxing Organization, which is a very, very high ranking considering the level of opposition he’s been fighting during his four-year pro career. I mean, I can’t recognize one name on Langford’s resume of past opponents, not one.

Eubank Jr. to face Tommy Langford

langford

By Scott Gilfoid: Chris Eubank Jr. will be defending his British middleweight title against challenger Tommy Langford in his next fight. Langford’s promoter Frank Warren won the purse bid for the fight and he’ll be the one putting the match on. Like in the 26-year-old Eubank Jr’s past two fights, he’s deciding to put his emphasis on fighting domestic level opposition rather than facing high quality contenders.

Langford, 27, is currently ranked #2 with the World Boxing Organization, but he’s not seen as one of the more talented fighters in the top 10 rankings by a lot of fans. Langford (17-0, 6 KOs) has been mainly fighting domestic level fighters and having problems getting knockouts over this level of opposition.

Tommy Langford: “I’m a grade above Taylor – I’ll punish his mistakes”

A brilliant 2015 took unbeaten Brummie middleweight Tommy Langford to the cusp of contention. Now it’s time to transform rich potential into something more concrete.

The 26 year old former England amateur skipper dips his toes into 12 round championship waters for the first time next month when he fronts up to Dronfield’s Lewis Taylor in a quality clash for the vacant Commonwealth title at Liverpool’s Echo Arena.
