By Dan Ambrose: If Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs) defeats Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) on May 6, Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) would be more than willing to move up to super middleweight to fight him at the full weight of 168 pounds for the division, says his promoter Tom Loeffler. He says he was trying to make a fight between Gennady and Chavez Jr. at 168 several years ago, but the fight failed to take place.

Canelo vs. Golovkin fight MUST happen says Loeffler

Image: Canelo vs. Golovkin fight MUST happen says Loeffler

By Eric Baldwin: Now that Gennady “GGG” has dodged a bullet with his close win over Danny Jacobs last Saturday night, Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler is saying that a mega-fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez MUST happen in September for the fans. Loeffler needs to make sure that he doesn’t come across as too needy when it comes to the negotiation with Golden Boy Promotions for the Canelo fight. Loeffler has got to make it clear that Golovkin has plenty of other options if he doesn’t get a fair deal for the Canelo fight.

Golovkin will be razor sharp for Jacobs says Loeffler

Image: Golovkin will be razor sharp for Jacobs says Loeffler

By Chris Williams: Gennady Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler says Daniel Jacobs is the opponent to allow him to show off all his full ability in their fight on Saturday. Loeffler feels that Golovkin was sloppy in the past in his fights when he wasn’t totally motivated by an opponent. Golovkin was hit more than he should have been in his last outing against Kell Brook. Loeffler sees that as a motivation issue for Golovkin, but it won’t be a problem for him against Jacobs.

By Jeff Aranow: Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions says that most of the negotiation points have been agreed to for a fight between IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) and Golden Boy Promotions former two division belt holder Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) for a fight this September. Loeffler says that if both fighters win their next fights, they could be facing each other later this year.

By Jeff Aranow: Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions not only views Saul “Canelo” Alvarez as a possible opponent for his fighter IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin for September, but also Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. as an option. As far as Loeffler is concerned, the winner of the Canelo-Chavez Jr. fight on May 6 will be the possible option for Golovkin in September.

It’s not just Canelo that Loeffler has his eyes on. It’s Chavez Jr. as well. Loeffler also says that if Golovkin wins his fight against Daniel Jacobs on March 18 and then beats the Canelo-Chavez Jr. winner later on this year, then a fight against Miguel Cotto could be an option for December.

TOM LOEFFLER and K2 PROMOTIONS were honored Tuesday in Downtown Los Angeles by the California State Athletic Commission for providing greater opportunities for fighters to participate in the State’s major professional boxing contests.

“Being a lifelong Los Angeles area resident and being able to bring these high profile sporting events means a great deal to me,” said Loeffler. “Although K2 Promotions has presented highly successful events all over the world, having success at home is very meaningful.”

Froch: Golovkin’s promoter doesn’t want him to come near me!

frochBy Scott Gilfoid: Carl Froch says he spoke with IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler recently about a potential catch-weight fight against Golovkin, and Loeffler didn’t want the fight to take place.

Froch says he got the impression from his conversation with Loeffler that the K2 promoter didn’t want his smaller 5’10 ½” fighter to come anywhere near him. Froch figures that his superior size compared to Golovkin put Loeffler off from the idea.

Froch says he can’t make 168lbs because it would be too hard on his body if he tries to melt down to that weight from where he’s at now since he retired from boxing last year.

Froch fight still interests GGG, says Loeffler

froch7999By Scott Gilfoid: Tom Loeffler, the promoter for IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs), says they would definitely be interested in a fight against former super middleweight champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) if he British fighter comes out of retirement to face him.

A fight between Golovkin and Froch was being talked about last year, but then Froch chose to retire rather than take the dangerous fight. Some boxing fans feel that Froch chickened out because of the risk that he’d get knocked out, and his legacy would be tarnished. I guess only Froch knows.

Loeffler expects conservative PPV numbers for Golovkin-Lemieux

https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=1&v=49NPY3ogWe4

By Allan Fox: IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler isn’t expecting huge pay-per-view numbers for Golovkin’s fight on HBO PPV against IBF middleweight title holder David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) in their fight on October 17th at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Loeffler quite rightfully expects the PPV numbers to be “conservative” for the fight card, which makes a lot of sense because neither of these fighters Golovkin and Lemieux are American, nor have they ever fought on a pay-per-view card before.

Loeffler is glad Lemieux willing to face Golovkin

golovkin5623By Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler is extremely pleased that IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) and his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions have elected to face him on October 17th on HBO pay-per-view.

Golovkin has been waiting for a big money fight against one of the top middleweights for the last three years since he started staging his fights in the United States. It took until now for one of the top fighters in the division to step up and face him. It’s sad that the top guys like Miguel Cotto, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Daniel Jacobs, Peter Quillin and Andy Lee hasn’t shown interest in facing him, but it kind of tells you what certain fighters are content with picking fights rather than facing the top guys.
