WBA Champion Keith “One Time” Thurman will once again defend his title against a close friend who will now become a close foe at the Barclays in Brooklyn New York. The name “One Time” is a badge of honor that Thurman wears on his sleeve to remind him that in the world of boxing all it takes is just “One Time” to change the direction of a fight or to end a fight just one punch “one time”and it’s lights out for either you or your opponent.

By Jeff Aranow: WBA World welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) wants to make sure the judges have nothing to do with the final results of his fight against Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) on June 25 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Thurman, 27, plans on knocking Porter out in this fight, which will be televised on Showtime Championship Boxing. Thurman has had problems knocking guys out lately, as he’s fallen short in two out of his last three fights in living up to his “One Time” nickname.

This is actually a real 50/50 fight between two young fighters in their primes willing to mix it up among this new boxing era of ducking and dodging between fighters not willing to take a loss. The champion Keith “One Time” Thurman a native of Florida U.S.A. has an unblemished record of 26w 0L at age 27 with an 81% knockout ratio.

Thurman wants a knockout, and he feels confident he’ll be able to make that happen.

Thurman says Porter will run into something when he comes after him the way he normally fights. Thurman has the power to knockout any fighter in the division. The only question is whether he’ll be willing to engage enough with the 28-year-old Porter to use his power.

The two fighters sparred together three years ago, and Thurman supposed spent much of the time running from Porter to keep from getting hit.

Thurman, 27, has a different perception of what took place during the sparring sessions, which he says took place over a three to four week period. Thurman says he wasn’t running from Porter, he was “dodging” him and making him hit air. It’s understandable why some people might interpret dodging as a form of running because what it means is that Thurman wasn’t staying in the pocket against Porter. He was moving to keep from getting hit.

For those that don’t understand the magnitude of this fight let me emphasize my point to you that this truly is a “Mega” type of fight.

I emphasize this point because you will have the luxury of watching two young guys who are both in their prime years in this sport. This fight is truly a 50/50 type of fight because both fighters posses knock out power in both hands and arguably unblemished records except for Porters fight against Kell Brook that some say Shawn Porter actually one.
