Atlas won’t be a factor in Pacquiao-Bradley 3, says Penalosa

atlasBy Tim Fletcher: Former world champion Gerry Penalosa doubts the impact new trainer Teddy Atlas will be able to make with WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) in his third fight with Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) in their rematch on April 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Penalosa thinks that Bradley has a lot of belief and trust in Atlas at this point of their teaming up with one another, but he doesn’t see Atlas as being capable of improving or changing Bradley enough for him to defeat Pacquiao in this fight.

The problem that Atlas has in his efforts to improve Bradley and give him a different look than before is that he’s already given different looks in past fights with Pacquiao. We’ve seen Bradley box, slug and move in his two fights with Pacquiao.

Atlas: Canelo vs. Golovkin is not going to happen

atlasBy Dan Ambrose: In the view of trainer Teddy Atlas, we won’t be seeing the fight between WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin this year. Atlas feels that Canelo has too many other options to make good money, and he doesn’t need to take a dangerous opponent like Golovkin.

Atlas feels that Golovkin is too big and too strong for Canelo. Atlas sees Canelo’s huge Latino fan base as making it possible for him to do well financially fighting anyone in the sport. Canelo doesn’t have to fight good opponents for him to make money. We’ve seen that recently with Canelo making good money fighting the likes of James Kirkland and Alfredo Angulo.

Neither of those fighters are factors in the 154lb division. They’re just a couple of names from the past that are no longer relevant at this point in the sport. Canelo still fought them and made good money.

Pacquiao-Bradley 3: Will Teddy Atlas make a difference for Tim?

atlasBy Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum feels that having trainer Teddy Atlas with WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) could help improve interest and obviously pay-per-view sales for his third fight against Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) on April 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Whether it will play out that way is unclear. What would seem more important to the boxing fans is whether Atlas can help Bradley, 32, beat Pacquiao legitimately without controversy this time, because the only victory that Bradley has in their previous two fights was a controversial 12 round decision in 2012.

Fans believe that Bradley was given a gift decision by the judges that worked the fight, and it’s hard to argue against that belief if you take the time to sit down and watch the fight on video. Bradley fought well at times, but Pacquiao was a little better in almost every round of the fight.

Teddy Atlas wants Bradley vs. Pacquiao 3

atlasBy Tim Fletcher: WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley’s new trainer Teddy Atlas says he likes the idea of a third fight between Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) and former eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao. Atlas feels that Bradley, 32, should be at the top of the list for Pacquiao for his final fight of his career on April 9th, due to Bradley’s impressive stoppage win over Brandon Rios this month.

“I think a rubber match would be intriguing,” Atlas said to Ringtv.com. “At the end of the day, I think another Bradley fight is at the top of the list for Manny’s last fight,” Atlas said.

How much can Teddy Atlas increase Bradley´s Desert Storm?

bradley2222222By Gerardo Granados: Last Saturday night at the Thomas and Mack Center, Las Vegas, USA, the WBO welterweight belt holder Tim Bradley outclassed and defeated Brandon Rios by TKO9. Although I called the fight right for Bradley, I bet on him to stop Rios on the 11 round so I ended up losing a few notes but still feel fortunate to have seen Tim performance, I know he defeated a brave fighter and not a slick welterweight boxer puncher but still this was a different Bradley for me.

The fight that convinced me Tim had a storm inside of him was his epic battle versus Ruslan Provodnikov, before that bout he showed determination and huger but the Siberian Rocky was his baptize of fire.

Bradley marching along together with trainer Teddy Atlas

bradley99999By Yannis Mihanos: WBO welterweight champion Tim “Desert storm” Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) produced a convincing 9th round knockout victory last Saturday night against Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios (33-3-1, 24 KOs) at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Bradley overwhelmed a slow and over the hill Rios with his superior hand speed.

After the first two rounds the fight turned to a one sided display. Rios came to the fight with his mind made up to retire right after the fight. The money offer for this fight was $800,000 that Rios couldn’t turn it down.

Bradley: Just imagine how I’ll look in a year with Teddy Atlas

rios0848566By Dan Ambrose: WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) was tooting his own horn last night after his 9th round knockout win over challenger Brandon Rios (33-3-1, 24 KOs) in their fight on HBO Championship Boxing in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Bradley says that he only worked with trainer Teddy Atlas for seven weeks to prepare for the Rios fight. Bradley feels that after a year of working with Atlas, he’ll be even better. Just how much better he thinks he’ll be is the big question. There is such a thing called diminishing returns, and I think we’ll see that with Bradley’s so-called improvement with Atlas.

Teddy Atlas wants Mayweather next for Bradley

atlas333By Chris Williams: If trainer Teddy Atlas gets his way, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26 KOs) will be making a comeback in 2016 to specifically face his fighter WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) to see if who the better fighter is between the two of them. Atlas says he wants to test the wits of Mayweather by coming up with a game plan for Bradley to give Mayweather his first defeat of his career.

Atlas is betting that Mayweather, 38, won’t be satisfied with ending his career at 49 wins, because he thinks he’ll want to come back to get win No.50 against Bradley.

Atlas: Golovkin has to agree with whatever Canelo asks of him

CANELO ÁLVAREZ media day workoutBy Chris Williams: If IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) wants a big money fight against Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) in 2016, then Golovkin will need to agree to the 155lb catch-weight that Canelo wants him to agree to in order for him to get the fight, says trainer/ESPN analyst Teddy Atlas.

Canelo is the one who brings in the pay-per-view buys and he’s the much bigger star than the Kazakhstan native Golovkin, so he can ask for anything he wants. It won’t bother Canelo if Golovkin says ‘no’ to his request for a 155lb catch-weight because Canelo will be fine if he never fights Golovkin.

Tim Bradley to be trained by Teddy Atlas

atlasBy Allan Fox: ESPN analyst Teddy Atlas will be taking over as the trainer for WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (32-1-1, 12 KOs) to get him ready for his first title defense on November 7th against former WBA lightweight champion Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios (33-2-1, 24 Kos) for a fight that will be televised on HBO Championship Boxing from the Thomas & Mack Center, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Atlas has a lot of experience in the past as a trainer. He recently trained former WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin several years ago. However, it’s unknown how much Bradley has left of untapped potential that the 59-year-old Atlas can bring out.
