Remembering Rocky Lockridge vs. Roger Mayweather Fight

By Gerardo Granados: Back in February 26 of 1984 at Beaumont,Texas; contender Rocky Lockridge defeated by KO1 the undefeated champion Roger Mayweather, who got caught with a solid right hand being unable to pick the count to lose his WBA super feather championship belt. During Lockridge long boxing career he fought some of the very best and on times fight fans thought that the score cards unjustly didn’t favor him. Some boxing fans even argue that he defeated Julio Cesar Chavez Sr back in 1986 in a close competitive bout; I bet Lockridge trainer Lou Duva is one of those who think the score cards were wrong.

Roger Mayweather sees Khan as better opponent for Floyd than Maidana

floyd7878111By Chris Williams: In another sign that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) will likely be facing Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) on May 3rd rather than WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s), Roger Mayweather, the trainer for Mayweather Jr., Roger thinks that Khan is the better option for Floyd Jr. to fight next rather than Maidana.

Roger sees it coming down to Khan being the bigger fight for Floyd Jr. than a fight against Maidana. Roger doesn’t say why he feels this way, but he just thinks Khan has the bigger profile and the more recognizable name than the Argentinian Maidana.

“I think Amir Khan is a bigger fight. You got to have a guy that can stand up in order to get that television, to get television to watch it,” Roger said to Hustleboss.

Roger Mayweather: Rios may whip Pacquiao’s a**!

pac93623By Chris Williams: Roger Mayweather, the uncle and trainer for Floyd Mayweather Jr., is impressed with the opponent that Manny Pacquiao will be facing this Saturday night in Brandon Rios (31-1-1, 23 KO’s) in Macao, China. Roger thinks this could be a very tough fight for Pacquiao and sees this as a good test for him to see where he’s at. However, Roger also thinks that Pacquiao’s inactivity in the last 11 months could make him vulnerable to an upset in this fight.

“They gave a good fight for him then,” Roger said to Hustleboss.

Roger Mayweather not impressed about Canelo beating up sparring partners

canelo111By Dan Ambrose: Roger Mayweather doesn’t care too much about the story that’s leaked out from WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s training camp at Big Bear, California about Canelo beating up on nameless sparring partners.

Supposedly, Canelo has knocked out four of them, but again there’s no names given for the quality of the sparring partners to identify whether they’re talented fighters or just someone pulled out of a local gym and throw in the ring with Canelo.

Roger Mayweather: Canelo vs. Trout could have been a draw

By Dan Ambrose: Roger Mayweather, one of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s trainers, says he wasn’t all that impressed with WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s 12 round unanimous decision win over Austin Trout last April. To Roger, the fight could have been scored a draw because Canelo didn’t establish that he was better than Trout in that fight.

marquez675By Chris Williams: Trainer Roger Mayweather wasn’t surprised in the least that Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao was knocked out cold by Juan Manuel Marquez recently in Las Vegas, Nevada. Roger notes that Pacquiao has been knocked out in the past, so he wasn’t shocked to see him losing in that manner once again when hit hard on the button from a right hand bomb thrown by Marquez.

Roger said to Hustleboss.com “It wasn’t no big thing. He’s [Pacquiao] been knocked out before. It doesn’t surprise me he got knocked out [again]. It just happened. Marquez and him are about the same size, the same weight division.”
