Why is Arum talking Pacquiao vs. Marquez 5?

marquez124By Robert “Big Moe” Elmore: On September 2nd of this year, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum told The Independent (a UK based newspaper) that Manny Pacquiao could fight Floyd Mayweather Jr twice in 2015. In that same article he claimed it “appeared” that Showtime and HBO wanted to the do the fight.

In the same month on the 11th, Arum said he was contacted by both networks and was told how they would jointly handle the fight (as told to another UK newspaper Telegraph Many fans geared up somewhat with excitement, but I remained calm to wait for more information. My patients prevailed as Arum then told Dan Rafael that Marquez could potentially fight Tim Bradley or Manny Pacquiao in April of 2015.

Pacquiao vs. Marquez 5 is Arum’s best bet for big PPV fight in 2015

pac006By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum would like nothing better than to match his money fighter WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) against WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) in 2015 in what would be far the biggest payday of the 35-year-old Pacquiao’s career.

Since the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight obviously isn’t going to happen for many reasons, Arum wants to set Pacquiao up for a 5th fight against aging warrior Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40 KOs) in what could be a big enough fight to bring Pacquiao’s deteriorating pay-per-view numbers back up to the 1 million mark that he used to hit every time he fought for a span of two years.

Arum wants Pacquiao-Mayweather and Pacquiao-Marquez 5 in 2015

arum0By Chris Williams: WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) hasn’t even gotten past the tough as nails Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) for their fight scheduled on November 22nd, and already Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum is talking about the next fight he wants to match Pacquiao against after that one.

Arum specifically wants to put a fifth fight together between Pacquiao and 40-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez. Arum previously had hoped to put the Pacquiao-Marquez 5 fight together for November, but they couldn’t get Marquez to agree to take the fight.

Marquez to be offered Pacquiao 5th fight in 2015

marquez5By Chris Williams: It seems that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum hasn’t given up on the idea of getting 40-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40 KOs) to agree to a 5th fight with his No.1 money fighter Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) after failing to agree to the rumored $20 million asking price that Marquez wanted for him to fight Pacquiao on November 22nd this year.

Arum wants to set up a fifth fight between Marquez and Pacquiao in early 2015. If the fight fails to happen at that time then that’s going to likely be the end of any chances of them ever fighting again, because Marquez is said to be retiring in 2015.

Roach: Marquez will come to the table for Pacquiao fight sooner or later

roach6666By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach hasn’t given up on the idea of his fighter WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao fighting 40-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez for a fifth time this coming November.

Roach is like a dog that won’t let go of a bone, he badly wants the aging Marquez to agree to another fight with Pacquiao for some reason. It obviously must still bug Roach how Marquez knocked Pacquiao down twice in their last two years ago and left him face down on the canvas sawing logs.

“I think he’ll [Marquez] come to the table sooner or later,” Roach said to theboxingvoice.com.

I hope Roach isn’t holding his breath waiting for Marquez to come to the table and accept a small slice of the pie instead of taking half of it.

Marquez wants $20 million for Pacquiao 5th fight, says Roach

roach564By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach is complaining that Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40 KO’s) is asking for $20 million for a fifth fight against Pacquiao in November, and that Marquez’s request is a show stopper. Roach says that a reasonable amount for Marquez to make for the fight is $10 million only, according to thesweetscience.com. But with Marquez asking for $20 million, it means that a fight can’t take place between them.

Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum recently said that Pacquiao will be getting around $30 million for his fights. If this is true, it means that there’s a potential $40 million pot of money that can be divided up for a 5th Pacquiao-Marquez fight. If you divide the money equally, then each fighter can walk away with $20 million, and Pacquiao would get his chance of trying to avenge his loss to Marquez.

Jeff Mayweather sees no point in Pacquiao-Marquez 5 fight

pac006By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez are poised for a 5th fight between them in November, and for a lot of boxing fans they’ve grown tired of seeing these two fighters face each other again and again. It’s not that they haven’t had some exciting fights over the year, because they’ve had some good fights. But fans want to see the two of them face other people and not be stuck on an endless rematch cycle.

One of the people that are tired of see Pacquiao and Marquez fight each other is Jeff Mayweather. He sees a 5th fight between them as redundant and proving little at this point. Jeff thinks that Marquez has won 3 of the 4 fights with Pacquiao already, and that he put an exclamation point on who the better fighter is with his 6th round knockout win 2 years ago.

Beristain thinks Pacquiao would be difficult fight for Marquez at this point

marquez5By Chris Williams: Juan Manuel Marquez’s trainer Nacho Beristain is still hoping that he’ll choose not to take a fifth fight against Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao for November. Beristain is trying his best to persuade Marquez not to take the fight, because he sees it as a fight where Marquez has little to gain and a lot to lose. Marquez wants the fight because it would give him his best chance at trying to win a 5th division world title.

Marquez matches up much better with Pacquiao than he does against the other welterweight champions Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shawn Porter, so he’s going after a guy that is the most beatable for him.

Marquez’s trainer doesn’t want him to take Pacquiao fight

marquez8By Chris Williams: Trainer Nacho Beristain is hoping to talk his fighter Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40’s) out of facing Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KO’s) in November. Marquez is undecided whether he’ll take the fight with the 35-year-old Pacquiao after beating Mike Alvarado in a WBO welterweight eliminator bout this month.

The World Boxing Organization set the fight up as an eliminator bout for their 147 lb. strap despite Alvarado never having fought in the division and having no ranking in their top 15 at the time of the fight. Marquez wasn’t ranked in the top 15 either by the WBO.

“I do not care what you have to do , I do not care who is angry, but I will do everything possible to prevent Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao from stepping into the ring with Pacquiao a fifth time ,” said Beristain to ESPN. [He] has nothing to prove, people will remember you for what you did in your career, for having given big fights people and for having faced the best of his time,” Beristain said.
