By Jason Kim: World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao is open to fighting a rematch against Miguel Cotto, according to writer Nick Giongco at MB.com.ph. However, the rematch will likely take place at a catch weight for Cotto’s WBA junior middleweight title. Pacquiao already destroyed Cotto last year in a one-sided 12th round knockout victory in November. The fight was never competitive, as Cotto was just way out of his class, too slow and unable trade with Pacquiao without getting pounded on.

By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has his ace in the hole, WBA light middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s), raring to go in case the negotiations between World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. don’t pan out. Arum will substitute Cotto in place of Mayweather in a second, and then put the fight in the Cowboy Stadium in Texas, which Arum has already reserved for the occasion well ahead of time. Antonio Margarito, another one of Arum’s fighters, is also an option for Pacquiao, although not quite as appealing because Margarito doesn’t have a boxing license to fight in the United States at this time.

By Dave Lahr: If you were thrilled with Manny Pacquiao’s catch weight fight with Miguel Cotto last November, I have good news for you – there’s an excellent chance that’s the next fight you’ll be seeing from Pacquiao and Cotto. If you’re like me, and sickened by the thought of a pointless rematch between Cotto and Pacquiao, then that’s just too bad because it will probably happen anyway. With Floyd Mayweather Jr. possibly stepping away from boxing for one to two years while he devotes his time to his Floyd Mayweather Jr. foundation, it leaves Pacquiao without an opponent for his upcoming bout in November.

By Chris Williams: Trainer Emanuel Steward believes a rematch between his fighter former World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao is a possibility. Cotto was stopped in the 12th round by Pacquiao last November in a one-sided defeat which saw Cotto get knocked down two times and totally dominated by the faster Pacquiao. Steward had this to say in an interview at Vocero, “It’s clear that it [a rematch between Pacquiao and Cotto] is possible. The fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will never happen, and if Miguel wants revenge, then Top Rank [the promoter for both Cotto and Pacquiao] will do everything possible so that they can put together this super battle.”

The past few days as the high of his dominance comes to a calm, skeptics naturally question if Manny Pacquiao really is a once in a lifetime talent or is he getting assistance with some sort of performance enhancing drugs. Floyd Mayweather Sr. will tell anyone who listens that he’s very suspicious of Pacquiao’s dominance. Speaking to the New York Post, Mayweather stated that given the circumstances he would not like his son to fight Pacquiao. He said, ”I have my own personal reasons. I don’t think little Floyd should fight Pacquiao. I’ll just say that. I’ll let you figure it out.”. Mayweather had previously stated that he thought Pac-Man was using steroids.

As a boxing fan of 22 years, it astounds me that boxers of the calibre of Manny never seem to get the credit they deserve until late on in their career.
