Pacquiao to start next phase of training for Bradley rematch in U.S

pac784(Photo credit: Chris Farina/Top Rank) By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) arrived in the United States on Monday, and he’ll be starting the 2nd part phase of his training at the Wildcard Gym in Los Angeles, California to get ready for his rematch against WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (31-0, 12 KO’s) for their fight on April 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Like always, Pacquiao will be assisted by his long-time trainer Freddie Roach and his assistant coach Buboy Fernandez.

The rematch will be televised on HBO pay-per-view, and it’s going to be really interesting to see how many fans are willing to purchase the fight. Pacquiao’s last PPV bout against Brandon Rios brought in disappointing PPV numbers with only 475,000 buys.

Pacquiao and Roach to start training at Wildcard Gym in Los Angeles this week

LOS ANGELES (March 8, 2014) — Fighter of the Decade MANNY “Pacman” PACQUIAO and his Hall of Fame Trainer World-Famous FREDDIE ROACH broke camp today in General Santos City in the Philippines and are en route to the U.S. On Monday, at Roach’s Hollywood-based Wild Card Boxing Club, they will begin phase two of training for their mission to recapture the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight championship title that undefeated two-division defending champion TIMOTHY “Desert Storm” BRADLEY, JR. won off of Pacquiao via a controversial split decision in 2012.

Pacquiao-Bradley II: Is this the end of the line for Manny?

pac6By Chris Williams: Career-wise, Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) will be limping into his April 12th rematch against WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (31-0, 12 KO’s) next month at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquiao has lost 2 out of his last 3 fights, and he hasn’t beaten a really good fighter since his catch-weight win over Miguel Cotto in 2009. Since that fight, Pacquiao’s wins have come against Joshua Clottey, Shane Mosley, Antonio Margarito, Juan Manuel Marquez and Brandon Rios. Like a lot of fans, I don’t count Pacquiao’s victory over Marquez in 2011 as being a win for Pacquiao, because Marquez clearly won that fight and deserved a decision with a four round cushion.

A loss for Pacquiao in the rematch with Bradley will send a message that it’s pretty much over for the 35-year-old Pacquiao. Yes, he’ll continue to fight after the defeat, because there’s no way that he’ll retire.

Roach believes Pacquiao will beat Bradley because of his superior conditioning

pac101010By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach believes his fighter Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) will beat WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (31-0, 12 KO’s) next month because he’s in better condition for their fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Roach has been working Pacquiao hard in training camp in the Philippines, and he’s had sparring partner Lydell Rhodes soaking up a lot of rounds against the 35-year-old Pacquiao.

Roach didn’t mention the fountain of youth, but he’s talking in glowing terms about Pacquiao like he’s somehow found the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León’s mythical fountain of youth somewhere for the aging Pacquiao. Roach has been talking about wanting Pacquiao to fight like he was in his 20s, and that’s just not going to be possible given how old he is.

Marquez looking forward to fighting Pacquiao-Bradley II winner

marquez4356By Chris Williams: 40-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez (55-7-1, 40 KO’s) has one thing left that he wants to accomplish before he retires and that’s to win a 5th division world title. For Marquez to do that, he’s going to need to face the winner of the April 12th fight between Manny Pacquiao and Tim Bradley.

Marquez already fought both guys, and he feels he was robbed in three of his fights against Pacquiao and in his fight against Bradley. Marquez said recently that he didn’t want to ever fight Pacquiao again after knocking him out cold in December of 2012 in their fourth fight. But Marquez’s desire to win a 5th division world title is more important than his resistance to fight Pacquiao a fifth time, so he’ll face him again if Pacquiao somehow gets past Bradley.

Mancini picks Pacquiao to easily beat Bradley

pac888By Chris Williams: Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini is picking Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) to easily avenge his loss to WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (31-0, 12 KO’s) next month in their long-awaited rematch on April 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. For Mancini, picking Pacquiao is pretty easy because he felt that Pacquiao beat Bradley the last time they fought, so it’ll be just a simple matter of being a little bit better in the rematch so that he doesn’t wind up losing another controversial decision.

The only way Pacquiao can flub it up in the rematch is if he goes overboard with his trainer Freddie Roach’s fountain of youth kick, and tries to fight like a youngster instead of a 35-year-old fighter who was recently knocked out cold by Juan Manuel Marquez.

Rhodes impressed with Pacquiao after sparring session

By Allan Fox: Sparring partner Haskell Rhodes (19-0, 9 KO’s) came away from his first sparring session with Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) reportedly impressed with his conditioning during a 4-round sparring session in General Santos City, in the Philippines. Rhodes, 26, has been hired to emulate WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley’s fighting style during the training camp, and he might just be the best sparring partner that Pacquiao has in the camp.

Pacquiao expected to start sparring this week for Bradley fight

pac86By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach has finally arrived in the Philippines to join Manny Pacquiao’s training, which has already started without Roach. The plan is to possibly get the 35-year-old Pacquiao sparring this week with his sparring partner Lydell Rhodes. He’s got a fighting style similar to WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley, and he should do most of the sparring with Pacquiao unless something unforeseen happens, like Rhodes being dismissed from the camp for one reason or another.

Pacquiao has been training with his assistant trainer/helper Buboy Fernandez for weeks already, and he’s now ready for Roach to start the main portion of the training. Roach is now going to work on trying to somehow bring out the lost aggression in Pacquiao.

The PPV Numbers Game – Can Bradley vs Pacquaio II beat Floyd vs Maidana/Khan?

pac0001By Rocky Esposito: First, I would like to point out that I am a huge Boxing fan. Individually, I like and respect everyone of these fighters. With that being established, I honestly would not be surprised if “Bradley vs Pacquaio II” ends up with more PPV sales then ”Mayweather vs Maidana/Khan”. Many Mayweather fans would immediately disagree with me, but let me explain why.

Mayweather is Boxing’s Pound 4 Pound Champion and PPV King, you will find no argument from me. Regardless of what his detractors may say, Mayweather’s resume is impressive and undeniable. His PPV numbers don’t lie either. With all of this in mind, I still believe his upcoming fight in May is not locked in and guaranteed to surpass Bradley vs Pacquaio II.
