Pacquiao is Boxing’s Superman

Image: Pacquiao is Boxing’s SupermanBy Rasheed Catapang: Once the mild mannered Clark Kent takes off his coat, we know the kid gloves are off. Saturday night in Dallas, we learned what feats of destruction such fists are capable of. No, Pacquiao is not Superman. But on the night he handed Margarito his comeuppance, he was closed enough. Was he faster than a speeding bullet? Maybe not. But against Margarito’s movement, he surely was bullet-like. The lumbering giant was being peppered with 6 to 7 hits combo before he could even contemplate mounting an attack – couple that with the fact that he could not hit what he could not see, Pacquiao being in perpetual motion and all. And when Margarito found the luck to actually launch one, he was met with a barrage of missiles whichever way he turns.

Steward doesn’t want Pacquiao to fight Sergio Martinez or Paul Williams

Image: Steward doesn't want Pacquiao to fight Sergio Martinez or Paul WilliamsBy Chris Williams: After watching Manny Pacquiao beat a slow, hand-picked Antonio Margarito on Saturday night by a bloody 12 round unanimous decision, trainer and HBO analyst Emanuel Steward recommended that Pacquiao not fight bigger and/or better junior middleweights like Sergio Martinez and Paul Williams. Steward said “The idea of him [Pacquiao] fighting Martinez or Paul Williams, extremely big guys, it doesn’t fit too well. Big guys that are fast also. I think the excitement right now is in the 140 pound division. That might be where to go. The Amir Khans that are coming up. The Tim Bradleys, and those kinds of guys. He may have to go back to that area. Maybe just jumping up, up, up and up. After awhile, I think he’s plateauing up there.”

Pacquiao beats stablemate Margarito: Will Manny start facing better opponents now?

Image: Pacquiao beats stablemate Margarito: Will Manny start facing better opponents now?By Dave Lahr: Manny Pacquiao beat his fellow Top Rank stable mate fighter Antonio Margarito by a 12 round decision on Saturday night to win the vacant WBC junior middleweight title. Although boxing fans are excited about the fight, you have to put the win in perspective. Margarito was stopped last year by Shane Mosley, and looked bad in his recent fight against fringe contender Roberto Garcia earlier this year. Margarito hasn’t looked the same since he beat Miguel Cotto two years ago. Margarito had a size advantage over the shorter Pacquiao last Saturday night, but Margarito doesn’t use his reach when he fights shorter opponents like Pacquiao.

Margarito suffers broken right orbital bone in loss to Pacquiao

By Jason Kim: Antonio Margarito (39-7, 27 KO’s) took an awful lot of punishment in losing by a 12 round unanimous decision to Manny Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KO’s) on Saturday night in a failed attempt to capture the vacant WBC junior middleweight title. It’s too early now to know whether there will be any lasting damage to Margarito that will possibly hinder him in future fights. Pacquiao Master Class too much for brave Antonio Margarito

Image: Pacquiao Master Class too much for brave Antonio MargaritoBy Gari Jones: It was a fight too remember as Manny Pacquiao (W52 (KO38) L3 (2 by KO) D2) put on a master class display too outpoint a brave and determined Antonio Margarito (W38 (KO27) L7 (1 by KO) D0), fighting for the vacant WBC Light Middleweight Title, not too many people could’ve have predicted that Pacquiao would be so devastating against a man who was naturally a Light Middleweight and being bigger and heavier than he was.

Pacquiao decisions Margarito

By Dan Ambrose: Manny Pacquiao defeated Antonio Margarito by a 12 round unanimous decision tonight to capture the vacant junior middleweight title at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Pacquiao’s work rate and speed was simply too much for Margarito, and he ended up losing by a fairly lopsided decision. It was competitive for the most part, but Margarito really wore down in the last four rounds and seemed a little weight drained from the struggle to squeeze down to make the 150 pound catch-weight that Pacquiao’s team insisted on for this fight. The final judges’ scores were 119-109, 120-108 and 118-110.
