By Dave Lahr: If you were thrilled with Manny Pacquiao’s catch weight fight with Miguel Cotto last November, I have good news for you – there’s an excellent chance that’s the next fight you’ll be seeing from Pacquiao and Cotto. If you’re like me, and sickened by the thought of a pointless rematch between Cotto and Pacquiao, then that’s just too bad because it will probably happen anyway. With Floyd Mayweather Jr. possibly stepping away from boxing for one to two years while he devotes his time to his Floyd Mayweather Jr. foundation, it leaves Pacquiao without an opponent for his upcoming bout in November.
Pacquiao-Cotto
Emanuel Steward says a rematch between Pacquiao and Cotto is a possibility
By Chris Williams: Trainer Emanuel Steward believes a rematch between his fighter former World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao is a possibility. Cotto was stopped in the 12th round by Pacquiao last November in a one-sided defeat which saw Cotto get knocked down two times and totally dominated by the faster Pacquiao. Steward had this to say in an interview at Vocero, “It’s clear that it [a rematch between Pacquiao and Cotto] is possible. The fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will never happen, and if Miguel wants revenge, then Top Rank [the promoter for both Cotto and Pacquiao] will do everything possible so that they can put together this super battle.”
Pacquiao’s win over Cotto is blown out of Proportion
By Klaas Mabetlela: It looks like we are all caught in our own excitement or disappointment to blow Manny Pacquiao’s win out of proportion. The great thing about Pacquiao’s slaughter of Miguel Cotto is that is has rejuvenated boxing in general and brought back some lost masses to the fistic arena. Boxing has not really been shinning in the past few years but Pacquiao’s recent performances, style and destruction of Cotto are all welcome to help boxing hold its own against other codes. But do we really need to exaggerate for and against this fantastic win?
Pacquiao vs. Cotto: Same as Margarito-Cotto?
Pacquiao’s Amazing Run…Once In a Lifetime or Performance Enhanced?
By Joel Nepomuceno: In light of Saturday night’s total annihilation of Miguel Cotto, Pacquiao laid claim to being the only boxer to have seven titles in seven divisions. The past few days as the high of his dominance comes to a calm, skeptics naturally question if Manny Pacquiao really is a once in a lifetime talent or is he getting assistance with some sort of performance enhancing drugs. Floyd Mayweather Sr. will tell anyone who listens that he’s very suspicious of Pacquiao’s dominance. Mayweather Jr., when asked about Pacquiao claims they have the best performance enhancing drugs in the Philippines (a country with a 40% poverty rate).
Mayweather Sr. hints at Pacquiao using steroids again – News
By Liam Santiago: Floyd Mayweather Snr has hinted again that he believes that World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao might be using steroids. Speaking to the New York Post, Mayweather stated that given the circumstances he would not like his son to fight Pacquiao. He said, ”I have my own personal reasons. I don’t think little Floyd should fight Pacquiao. I’ll just say that. I’ll let you figure it out.”. Mayweather had previously stated that he thought Pac-Man was using steroids.
Miguel Cotto: the Roberto Duran Road
By Saad Farooqi: When Roberto Duran infamously exclaimed “no mas” in his second bout with Leonard, all the courage and pride the young street fighter from Panama embodied shattered. A fighter who once returned to his home country in a national parade and a chance to stay at the presidential house returned to jeers. In many ways, the jeers haven’t stopped.
Maybe Pacquiao has finally proven what real boxing fans knew all along
By Eughine Dunnion: With the manner in which Manny Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 KO’s) went about the job of beating tough as teak Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto (34-2, 27 KO) in a 12th round TKO last Saturday night, maybe now, at long last Pacman will get the credit he deserves. As a boxing fan of 22 years, it astounds me that boxers of the calibre of Manny never seem to get the credit they deserve until late on in their career.
Pacquiao’s Future? I’m Still Stuck on November 14th
Tuesday, November 17, 2009 – By Zachary M. Johnson: Even if you are a passionate boxing fan, you are lucky if, once in your life, you see a fight that makes you fall in love with boxing all over again. Three days removed from a record-setting welterweight match-up, my feeling is still the same—we all just witnessed a monumental moment in boxing history.
Who’s next for Manny?
By Paolo Angelo Natanawan: After the stunning victory against Miguel Angel Cotto, a lot of questions are again starting to pile up but there is only one worth answering. Who’s next for Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (50-3-2), 38 KO’s) Freddie Roach wants what most of the fans, boxing analyst/experts and ordinary people around the world also wants, Floyd Mayweather Jr (40-0, 25 KO’s).
