Pacquiao: When is he going to step it up and fight someone really good?

Image: Pacquiao: When is he going to step it up and fight someone really good?By Chris Williams: Unlike a lot of people who are crowing 24/7 about how great Manny Pacquiao has looked in chocking up his latest win over Joshua Clottey last Saturday night at the Cowboy Stadium, I wasn’t impressed in the least by the fight or Pacquiao’s opponent. I’m tired of seeing Pacquiao put in with fighters that I see as tailor made for him.

You know, the come forward types with almost zero ability to move or defend. In Clottey’s case, he was able to defend himself well, but was incapable of throwing more than a token shot in self defense. The thing of it is this was known going into the fight about Clottey.

What’s Next for Clottey, Pac-Man?

Image: What’s Next for Clottey, Pac-Man?By David Berry: Isn’t this what we expected? Manny Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KO), as planned, blitzed through Joshua Clottey (35-4-20 KO) on Saturday night; another opponent left in the dust. Despite Bob Arum’s best efforts to sell this fight on its own merits, the end result was never in question. The only real question going into Saturday night, and the only one that remained afterward, was whether or not a mega fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. (40-0, 25 KO) could finally be inked when it was over, provided Mayweather can get through Shane Mosley (46-5, 39 KO) on May 1

Fights at the Cowboy Stadium: I couldn’t care less about them

Image: Fights at the Cowboy Stadium: I couldn't care less about themBy Chris Williams: I watched last Saturday night’s awful Joshua Clottey vs. Manny Pacquiao card at the Dallas Cowboy Stadium, and I got to say I personally don’t care whether there are any more fights at that stadium or any other stadium. Supposedly, this is something that is good for boxing to have fights shown in large stadiums. How is it good for me? I didn’t get anything from it. All I saw on Saturday night, while watching the fight on Pay-Per-View for $49.95, was an occasional pan of the camera to an unfilled stadium. How is that good for me?

How come Pacquiao got so beat up by Clottey?

Image: How come Pacquiao got so beat up by Clottey?By Esteban Garduno: I know how fans of Manny Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KO’s) think he looked sensational in his 12 round decision win over Joshua Clottey (35-4, 20 KO’s) last Saturday night at the Dallas Cowboy Stadium, but Pacquiao sure did get beaten up by Clottey, didn’t he? Look at Pacquiao’s face after the fight, badly marked around both eyes, his face swollen from Clottey’s powerful shots and an appearance of someone you could easily mistake as the loser had you not watched the fight. And then look at Clottey, not a scratch on his face, barely sweating at all and looking very much like the winner of the fight.

Pacquiao’s Perfect Performance

Image: Pacquiao’s Perfect PerformanceBy Rasheed Catapang: “He had a good defense, but defense isn’t enough to win a fight,” Roach said. And that basically summed up the whole Pacquiao-Clottey Affair. The Event was – no small thanks to Clottey – uneventful.

His defense was too good for his own good. There was madness in his method. The method to his madness, however, was lost in that air-tight defense. Impenetrable as it was that almost nothing went in, nothing also went out. Clottey honed his defensive mastery to the extreme, almost possum-like, but thoroughly forgot that boxing also required a lot of punching in order to win.

Clottey very impressive with his clamshell defense

Image: Clottey very impressive with his clamshell defenseBy Esteban Garduno: Forget about the results of Saturday’s fight between Joshua Clottey (35-4, 20 KO’s) and Manny Pacquiao for a second. The real story on Saturday’s fight was Clottey’s clamshell defense. It was incredible the way that Clottey completely stifled Pacquiao’s offense. The Filipino was forced to throw over 1200 punches to try and get through Clottey’s airtight clamshell. It literally took Pacquiao that many punches to win the 12 round decision because Clottey shut him down completely with his defense. To watch the clam in process was very impressive.

Pacquiao is lucky he wasn’t facing Mayweather instead of Clottey

Image: Pacquiao is lucky he wasn’t facing Mayweather instead of ClotteyBy Dave Lahr: Okay, I’ve seen the Pacquiao-Clottey fight, and I now think Pacquiao should consider himself the luckiest man on the face of the earth that he wasn’t facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. instead of Joshua Clottey last night at the Dallas Cowboy Stadium. Mayweather would have boxed the socks of Pacquiao and given headaches for ages. As it was, Clottey hit Pacquiao at will. Really, it was like Clottey couldn’t miss with his shots. Granted, it would have helped if Clottey had at least thrown a few more punches and shown an interest in actually winning the fight instead of just looking to survive.

Pacquiao Destroys Clottey in 12

Image: Pacquiao Destroys Clottey in 12By Ryan Dunn: In a victory as impressive as any in Manny Pacquiao’s career, the Pride of the Philippines has won a unanimous decision after twelve rounds of some of the most one-sided boxing we’ve witnessed at the elite level in some time. Pacquiao won at least 11 of the rounds tonight decisively, against a fighter much stronger and bigger than he was.

The question for Pac Man is Why?

Image: The question for Pac Man is Why?By Eric Hernandez: As I await tonight’s welterweight battle I find myself asking Why. Why would Manny Pacquiao risk a big money fight With Floyd Mayweather by fighting a guy in Joshua Clottey. That will be extremely difficult to look good against, he has a tough chin and his defense will make it difficult for Pac Man to dominate him the way he dominated both Oscar Dela Hoya and Miguel Cotto.

Roach says “We took Clottey because we’re still chasing after Mayweather” – News

Image: Roach says “We took Clottey because we’re still chasing after Mayweather” – NewsBy Esteban Garduno: Freddie Roach seems to be conflicted about wanting Manny Pacquiao to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. On one hand, Roach can’t stop talking about how much he wants Pacquiao to fight Mayweather next, and yet in the next breath, Roach is saying that Mayweather doesn’t make the rules in boxing. Roach, of course, is talking about the Olympic style random blood tests that Mayweather wants Pacquiao to take before he’ll fight him. For some strange reason that I’ll never understand, Roach sees this as a case of Mayweather trying to throw his weight around and push Pacquiao to do something he doesn’t want to do.
